Exhaust Rasp?
I have a prelude with a full exhaust i.e. headers, intake, high flow cat, resonator, 2.25 piping as well as many other bolt ons. The muffler is a magnaflow. My problem is though that after some time oh maybe 40,000 miles or so the exhaust got really raspy and really bad, but at some rpms after it has been running for a good 10 min it sounds pretty deep. I recently replaced the engine block only, not the externals with it though, but the sound is still there. Any ideas on how to get ride of the sound? Is it the muffler or could it be something to do with any of the engine externals? Also could it have anything to do with the tranny because I literally just blew a hole in that?
I think the rasp usually is caused (rather, pevented) by the resonator. Maybe try having that replaced, or another one added, and see if that does anything? Then again, it could be your muffler going bad as well. Is any of it rusted out?
I have had the resonator installed to quite the rasp, but it works somewhat o.k. but after time it started to sound how it did with out it. When I take it off now it sounds really loud and obnoxious.
the packing in the muffler has probably blown out completely. you need to take the muffler off and remove the core. repack the inside w/ fiberglass/wadding, and re-install.
