Default what would you do to a virgin 2005 honda civic si?

I just bought an '05 civic si. I love it already but am feeling the need to embellish under the hood etc.

I am green at this so I need some input from you educated tuners.

What are the basics that I can do to increase horsepower and not go broke?

I guess I would start with getting the new version of the injen cai ... or maybe the injen cai made for the type s.

I suppose an exhaust would be my next mod

If it were me, I would do an intake, header, and exhaust, then work on the suspension.

First thing though, would definately be an intake.

Mugen suspension, lighter wheels, and sticky tires.

I'd say suspension first, cause what's power without handling? =D. Sway bars, lowering springs or coilovers, whichever one you want. Sway bars help a lot in suspension. A rear sway bar will help reduce understeer.

a thicker sway bar in the read will help reduce understeer, but if you get it too thick and your springrates arnt high enough, there are chances of the bar ripping out of your subframe. it happened on older civics and preludes and such. new civics already have front and rear sway bars.

Injen/AEM CAI ($90-150), cat-back exhaust ($350-500), DCRH($250-350) or DC shorty($150-250) with test pipe ($50-120) and if you have some extra $$$ get
K-PRO ($800-$1000)
you can pretty much get everything slightly used for fairly cheap price here or at ephatch.com...

drive it.

break it in before you let the beast loose

then i/h/e, and some suspension work should do.

The car is not bad as is, despite what a lot of folks say. First things first, the suspension needs a little help. I would contact these guys, http://stores.ebay.com/College...QtZkm, I got the HFP non-adjustable coilovers to my door for about $475 brand new. They only lower the car about an inch, but the ride is vastly improved without being too harsh for a DD. Then if you are like me and think the oem tires suck you get some stickier tires and thicker rear sway bar. At this point handling is about as good as it will get from ep3.

Then of course you will want more power. All I can say here is begin with the end in mind. We all know guys who have bought i/h/e and not been happy with the power so they got a turbo kit or did a swap and a bunch of the stuff they bought didnt fit anymore. You really have four options: i/h/e/k-pro, supercharger, turbo or swap. There are bunches of guys running each setup for different reasons, you need to have some idea of how you want things in the end before you start spending money and find out that maybe you didnt get the results you wanted.

Good luck.

I know Chunky has made the cams but last time I asked him about pricing for the cams, retainers and springs, k-pro and software he was still getting things together and while I am sure his work and MAP are fine, I would let a few other guys buy it and put a few miles on it before I did.

Best advice I can give you is to wait a while, drive the car a few thousand miles to make sure you know what it is you really want to change about the car before you start spending money.

Remember, too, that one thing always leads to another.

Save your money until you can afford what will really make a difference, and do it right the 1st time. If your money is burning a hole in your pocket, attack the suspension.
