Default blinking s light - tranny or electrical HELP

I have seen a couple posts on this, and am still confulsed and amazed. We have a 91 ex. Have been experiencing problems with AT. Now the s light flashes irradically (and makes a distinct noise - loud click when flashes). It is throwing no codes! Can any one give us some hints on what to check before we take her in? Over 25 years of driving we have never had to take one of our cars to the garage. It is almost like admitting defeat. This is our first honda, had it now for almost 2 years, has 170,000 miles. This is a real head scratcher. It won't respond to any gear now, rpms rev but, no gear. Sometimes it will go into first and reverse. There has been slippage, I have felt before that it almost didn't know what gear to go in, maybe not reading the correct speed. Took the TCM out to inspect visually, no noticable burns. Please help. Thanks

Not exactly what I wanted to hear. Thanks for your input. I'm not in denial, really, just want to know if there are any other ideas. BTW, the car was doing this idle see-sawing thing, we changed out the thermal idle control. Stopped for a few miles, then started again. It seems there are so many things that over lap. Will the temperature sensor have anything to do with this or the tranny problems, and would there be a code if it was bad or a bad connection? thanks

Dude... ....you know for sure that you have your transmission fluid at the right level right?! That could cause some slippage too btw....
.....with 170k miles, you may need to check the transmission... ...that's why I got rid of my 91 SE and got myself a 97 EX 5sp.... it's so much fun.... I love every gear I shift....
BTW.... ...are you ready for some serious wind this weekend?... .I'm talking about this danm hurricane coming..... Good luck brother!

We'll be "hunkering down" come Monday! BTW, I'm not a dude, my husband and I like to work together on our cars, it keeps us off the streets - or on the streets. He does the muscle work, I do the research and ask silly questions like "hey, why is this piece left over?" The tranny fluid is at the right level, we have flushed through several quarts of fluid and wiped gray sludge off the plug each time. It ran smooth after that, but after about 70 miles, same thing, slipping, now its hit and miss in first and reverse. That s blinking light has got us totally baffled. still no code on CEL or S light.

Waiting for Wilma.
