My car is a 2000 Honda Civic CX HB automatic and last morning when I started the car the SRS light came on and stayed. What do you guys think usually causes this? Anyone have exprerience with the SRS light coming suddenly coming on?

 

unplugged seatbelt wire, unplugged airbags?

 

it's called a clock spring and it's right behind your streering wheel, i think if thats on your horn might not work either. oh and if you buy one buy it from the junkyard cause the dealer is very expensive

 

The SRS light comes on when your car feels the need for a JDM steering wheel without an airbag so you can disconnect that light.

Check your SRS fuses first, then check the connectors, check clock spring, if everything seems to be ok, perform the SRS reset procedure.

If at that point, the light is still on, you may need a visit to someone with the SRS diagnosis computer or program on their handheld programmer. Or just replace the wheel with something cool.

Maybe it's because I ripped out everything that had to do with the air bag system to install my steering wheel..

You didn't rip everything out if your light is still on... the harness and indicator light is part of the SRS circuit. Unplug the yellow plug from the gauge cluster to turn off the retarded light.

 

or just pop the board out and take the light out

Not to thread hijack, but what about if my srs light doesn't cut on when the car is started, but if I swap gauge clusters, the light comes on, but stays? Is my bulb burnt out?

Airbags scare me, so thats why I ask dumb questions about them. This is in a 95 Civic Ex, 5speed with B16a swap.

if your bulb doesnt come on with one cluster then it comes on and stays on with another, it is pretty safe to say you most likely had a burnt bulb. don't worry about the airbag system. with the bulb on, the system should never deploy. remove the computer, the 2 sensors in the footwells and disconnect the yellow plug at the rear of the cluster. it will save you a couple pounds and make you more jdm...

 

I haven't found the SRS reset procedure in the FAQ thread... link anyone please?

That did it for me!!! Its not 2 hard, only a couple of screws and a turn of the bulb and your done!!!

or just leave it in and put a black square piece of duck tape over the light, then you wont see it anymore

Well what would I connect it to? I don't have any devices that will read error codes...

Anyway, I'm kinda afraid of just taking the bulb out, since there might be a problem with the airbag, what if it goes off at a random point? Someone might get hurt.

You jump the service check connector with a paper clip, then count the flashes of the srs light. It should give a main code quickly followed by a sub code.
