Default I could use some help with HC rules.

So I was starting to take stuff out of my car to get it ready for next year (fingers crossed. I know people gut their dash and cut/remove metal seat brackets. I don't see where the rules state you can do that. Am I looking in the wrong place?

There is one particular stamped piece of metal right where the driver's knee is behind the large plastic trim
piece. It doesn't look like it's a trim piece so it looks like I'm not allowed to remove it. BTW, does anyone know what that stamped metal "knee" bar is for?

Edit:

Where does it say I can remove the sound deadening material?
Can I take out the clock on my dash?

NASA rules state:

7.11 Vehicle Interior
a) Any NASA CCR-Compliant steering wheel may be used.
b) Any NASA CCR-Compliant driver’s seat may be used.
c) The factory dashboard must remain intact but may be modified to accommodate roll cage,
gauges, switches and instrumentation.
d) Interior mirror(s) are unrestricted.
e) All interior trim pieces such as: interior panels, glove box, seats, carpet, headliner, center console
and sound deadening may be removed.
f) The spare tire and associated components may must be removed.
g) A dead pedal may be added.
h) Foot pedals may be altered for driver comfort.
i) Stereo, speakers and related wiring may be removed.
j) Factory seat belts may be removed.

Yes the stamped metal bar is bolted on to the dash skeleton. It looks as if it's to provide cushioning to the driver's knee in case of a head-on collision as it looks like it has a crumple section.

If its part of the saftey system, I'd leave it it. What does it weigh?

I would assume that if he needs to remove it in order to place his rollcage crossbar there then it's legal right? Isn't it considered a part of the dash?

They can, if it's to make room for bucket seat or cage or other allowed items.

Was it an optional item? Then yes.
If not, you can remove it to make room for othe allowed items (cage, seat, new intruments, etc).

The rules set are online as you already know . There are few things to remember when deciding what to take out. First is-will the car be ONLY for HC and never be run in SCCA ITA or Production racing? If the answer is YES, then gut according to the rules as written for the class you plan for the car (H1-H5). If you are building for both sanctioning bodies' events, then take care to consult the SCCA GCR (online too) as to what you are allowed in Improved Touring. If you run ITA you cannot remove the glove box as I read the rule. There are a few other things that make the 2 series different. Also be very careful to build the rollcage to the required spec, which happens to allow 8 points of contact in both series; again look to the GCR for the basic design.
I am not sure about the fire suppression system rule. That is to say there are several ways to comply as to both driver and engine bay protection. However, our car complies with both sanctioning bodies requirements as do the window net, tow hooks and their decals, and belt anchoring.

What I am saying is be thorough in your reading. When you go for your first Annual Tech you will get a Logbook and the cage stamped. Be sure to have the required pair of 3/4 view pictures no larger than 4x6 and all required decals in place. DO NOT drill the cage for the inspection holes until the inspector tells you where they are to be. I took a cordless drill and 3/16" bit with the car to the tech line.

What about the rear seat mounts/brackets? You wouldn't be removing them in order to install a seat or cage.

I don't see where it says optional items can be removed.

Speaking of interior rules, as I read the HC rules, we have to keep the turn signal and headlight stalks, correct?

Thanks for your tips.

It's only going to be an H1 car as it already has a swap. Half of Warren ****'s old ITR still lives in my civic.

I have a few more things to do until I can become the backmarker Front half of cage, window net, fire suppression, cutoff.

Speaking of backmarker, anyone know what's up with Phil?

Hmm, wouldn't you consider that metal dash bar as part of the dashboard, not a "trim piece"?

I removed mine as well. Maybe it's a little different for the CRX. Mine went from the steering column to the center tunnel. I removed it to install the dash bar.

I consider anything attached to the dash to be a trim peace. (expect stearing coloumn and bracing).

Phil Ambrose?

He bought a FD and is in the process of building a garage. I think he plans on racing again next year.
