Absolutely Ridiculous!!!
What you are about to witness, is the most pathetic attempt to reassemble and install an H22 engine into a 1994 Honda Civic EX. I'll add some photos of my car, once somebody tells me how to upload them to the thread.
I paid $350 for the engine to be removed from the car and disassembles. So far I'm happy. Five months later, I finally get all my parts together and have all my machine work done. We are ready to assemble the engine. The guy who rebuilds the engine claims to have 22 hours of work into it @ $45/hr, so I pay him $990 in cash. A little steep, but with the balance shaft removal kit, and the fact that they claim it took 5 1/2 hours to file the rings, I'm not too happy, but I pay. Here's where things get super slimy as they really screw me over...really bad.
Another guy from the shop puts the engine in the car and taps new holes in my tranny, because when my mount snapped a while back it took a little piece of the tranny with it. Not including ANYTHING done to the engine, except for just putting it into the car he says he has 13 1/2 hours into it. IT DOES NOT TAKE 13 1/2 HOURS TO PUT A HONDA ENGINE IN A CAR AND BOLT IT TO THE MOUNTS!!! This doesn't include the fact that he charged me for "FIXING" an axle that didn't need fixed before the car arrived. I never authorized this. Or the fact that it took him 2 hours to "CHECK ALL THE SENSORS". They didn't need CHECKED!!! When I brought the car to the shop it did not throw one CEL. Everything was plug and play. After all of his little charges he rang me up for another bill of $1,011.53. So I'm at $2,350 just to rebuild and reinstall a Honda engine. I mar pursue legal action if this isn't dealt with properly. I'm just posting this to get some feedback as to how to go about it.

You don't think that it can take 3 hours to put an H22 back into a civic, get all the mounts on, plug the entire harness in, attach all the lines, and fill with fluids? Have you ever done a swap before? Sounds like you may have been screwed a little but if you really think that 3.5 hours is excessive for installing an H22 into a Civic you make want to re-think your stance.

seems a little excessive, my buddy who does 99% of the swaps around here charges a flat fee of $1000canadian to remove old motor and install new h22 into a civic. I dont know about the rebuild though. I would get them to explain everything on why it is so high. Flat rate is a great thing because you dont pay extra if a shop is incompitant.
take him to judge judy
Do you mind posting the name of this garage? Was this garage the one that is just off the Highland Park bridge? I drive down that way a lot and i alwasy see a lot of honda's off the street outside that garage, most of them being si's with full body kits. maybe i saw ur car at one point haha.

Yes, yes it does
Edit: you got proper F**KED!
I know you can pull and reinstall an H22 in 8 hours, my roommate and a few people did it. One more reason to learn to do it yourself I suppose.

The name of the garage is D&H. And here's why I'm so pissed off. Eric is the guy that runs and owns the shop. When I took my car to him in April, it took Eric 3 hours to remove the engine from the car. It then took him 2 more hours to disassemble the engine. A+ in price, A+ in customer satisfaction. Then, just recently Vince, one of Eric's other mechanics charged me 13.5 hours to reinstall the engine. Now tell me guys. How does it take 3 hours to remove and engine, 10.5 more to reinstall it. Not including tuning or anything (BTW my valves tap like a bitch). Unless Vince fell asleep while working on my car or had a serious drug overdose there is now F'ing way man. I wanna tell people I took my Honda to, to take theirs to D&H, but until this issue is resolved I will in no way support his shop.
Just in case you haven't been paying any attention here's my bills (3):

Reassemble Engine 22.00 hrs = $990.00
3) October 18, 2005

Checking Sensors
Tapping New Bolts
Oil Changes
Fixing An Axle? 9.00 hrs = $403.50

my first thought was, 3.5hrs to remove a stock motor? It should take no more then 1.5hr with a hoist and someone who knows what he is doing around a honda. My buddy has a stock civic motor out in 30mins with his partner helping
This is why you get quotes before hand, and have it in writing that all extra procedures needed will require your direct verbal/writen consent (or service is rendered free). Call up a honda dealer and check the hourly quote for doing said services. A non-honda place that deals with hondas shouldn't be able to charge the full price of a qualified dealer. Then again, it could be considered a weird swap. As for the axle...an axle is an axle, weird swap or not - easy to do. I wasn't charged more than $600 parts/labor for my eg/b18b1 swap, which included the teg's full exhaust, shortram, fuel pump, ex cluster & more...

That sucks Bro.
Honestly, I would get the car back, & report them to the local News. expletive the BBB, they dont do **** 1/2 the time. First step is by letting everyone know who they are & what they did. Getting the word out, even if its on here will help others out.
For a sec, I thought you were going to say SRD.
I know a few people that have had problems with them, including myself.
I made a big post about them awhile back & they called me up trying to "make it right" They asked me to come down & talk to the owners but I honestly dont want anything to do with them & wouldn't let them EVER touch my car without me Watching.
Companies like this deserve everything they Get. You could always pay them what you think it fair + a little more. Take the Car & tell them to eat the Rest. Fuckem, make them take you to court. Chances are they wont bother.

Wow that shop seriously is ripping you a new one. I would get quotes from other places for sure. Then take your car to someone else. Thats BS up the ***. No way does it take 13.5 hours to put in an engine. **** first time i put an engine in (up and running) it took less then 8 hours.
Thats atleast 2 days they spent on it, no ******* way.

1994 Honda Civic EX:

The install I paid $2300 in labor for:

How half-*** can it honestly get?

Oh its just the wires to a Bosch O2 sensor. They're only $189.99:

I actually paid for my valve cover to be cut like this:

So there they are. Unload on me here. Give me more reason to be pissed. Oh, and sorry I posted so many pics. Just wanted to get the full effect of things.
