Drive door actuator
Hi all,
I have a 98 4dr ex 4 cyl accord. I have a problem with my door. When I try to use my alarm or the door lock on the door my lock will not open or close. In order for me to open my door or lock my door from the outside I have to manually use my key. (Wow those were the good ole days). Same goes when I am in my car I have to manually lock and unlock my door. When I use my alarm or the door lock it will open and close all other locks in my car leaving my lock the same way regardless if all other doors is locked or unlocked. My question is I know my actuator is dead but I am hearing things from some people that when they made the 98 models there is more to the actuator then the part itself. Is this true? Do I also need the whole latch piece also or is it just the actuator? Any help on this will help thanks alot.

Here's the illustrated detail of the complete door lock system. It would appear that all electrical functions go thru the actuator (#28)

I replaced my driver’s door actuator in my ’99 LX this past spring. I’d start out with just the actuator, see if that does the trick. The part isn’t too expensive, maybe $35 or so from the dealer.
And I was just looking at my actuator two days ago (was looking around trying to figure out if I had overtightened something since my window has been getting slower and slower…) Anyway, as I remember it…
Remove the door panel. After this is off, with a knife or razor blade, slice through the glue that is holding on that plastic; don’t cut the plastic itself. Using some masking tape or something, tape the plastic up and to the right to keep it out of your way.
Have a handheld mirror with you, you’ll need it to see what’s going on on the inside – back part of the door.
On the outside of your door you’ll see a bolt holding the window rail on and three screws holding on part of the door latch. Remove those, and take those parts out of the interior of the door.
Past that, I can’t quite remember what was done. I actually had some good tips in a thread but that thread is long gone. Take a look at your new actuator, you’ll know where the screw holes are that way.

Sup. Thanks for the assistance. I went to my local junk yard that has used parts and got my actuator. The dealer didnt have one in stock and I didnt feel like waiting a couple of days for it. I went ahead and replaced my acuator and it was just the brain part of the acuator that I needed to replace. My door locks and unlocks now like a charm. The detail that I received from the service dept at Honda is not true about the latch. That service guy was probably trying to get me to come in so they can have my business what a bunch of crap. Thanks everyone

Congrats on having it work right again, when I did mine they worked better, but still aren't right.
