Default 3" VS. 2.75" AEM Cold Air Intake Performance Difference

I've been here on H-T for almost 5 years now and this is my first All-Motor Forum post as I am no longer boosted. Here's the dilemma: I'm curious if anyone has any experience with the performance differences between the two on the same application. I'm trying to figure out the performance gain VS. price correlation! I can get a GS-R 2.75" CAI for $100 OR $160 for the ITR 3" model.

I personally would go with the 3"

AEM's are infamous for their hump of power at 4-5k rpm, nice for the street but not very usefull on the track. The problem is they tune the harmonic resonance for that location, instead of in your powerband.

Now with a larger diameter it is going to shift when that occurs to a higher location. Hopefully with in your powerband instead of just before it.

I am very interested to see your dyno results with the victor x mani on that build. I would say the ITR intake because its designed for the ITR powerband; more high rpm power. I would think with the victor X manifold you will be more interested in 6500+ rpm range power gains and the 3" would compliment that well.

It's actually a combination of 2 different pipe diameters and lengths all wrapped up in one. I think it's a combination 2.75" and 3.5" diameters sleeved over one another.

Is it 2.5" or 3" at the TB end?

Depends what car the V2 is for...but it's usually always the same size as the throttle body on the car it's made for with the larger piping further down.

this topic has a good point someone should do a dyno comparison of the 2 intake arms and see if the 3'' really out performs the 2.5'' aem intake arm but using a stock bore t-body

I just bought the 3" Type R AEM Cold Air so if someone has a 2.75" GS-R AEM model they wanted to lend me I would be will to dyno the two back to back to get some evidence for this post!

If the diameter of your throttle body is 2.75" or less, does it really matter?

Any more feedback on this.

I am trying to design a velocity stack, for those who saw my velocity stack analysis thread. I assumed my intake was 3", but turns out to be 2.75". So I am designing a prototype around 2.75" intake. But want to get some input on intake plumbing size for N/A hondas before I commit to designing a v stack for both 2.75 and 3, or simply uping my own intake pipe and prototype a 3 inch version.

try both, but a short ram tube, but i know it sucks when your looking for 1 particular thing, and your on a budget, so both is out of the question i guess.

i wanna say try the 2.75" first, but regardless, you can't go wrong with a short ram, an extension, and filter, velocity stack, or ebay scoop, etc. on the end of the pipe.

i like the OEM intake arm, and how it bolts up to the throttle body. seems to be a smoother air path than using any tube with a silicone coupler. that's what works for me, just have to get creative, because you'll find what works best for your setup concerning lengths and diameter.

try to have both a 2.75" and 3" OEM intake arm, or buy some 45 degree tubing from summit, JCW, jegs, Kteller, etc. and go crazy.
