Default optima battery, aem hybrid intake system, and no room for crap under my hood LOL

okay so i have been running my b16a since april or may without an air filter, just some pantyhose over the intake pipe lol... and I finally got around to ordering the AEM hybrid cold air intake ($195 shipped) and I just ordered an optima Yellow top group 51 battery, and I am figuring I will have to position the battery a little funky to get the intake to fit right, as it is 3" piping....

so my question is this... anyone else with similar setups have an easy way to get it all to fit and still use a battery tie down? (preferably stock tie down, and mounting plate lol) I want to avoid having to fab something that might fall apart, as I have no shop or welding abilities...

has anyone found that moving the battery to the back you have some drain in the power of the battery? or some charging problems?( talking to those that live in northeast, where it gets cold)

Are you fool man? Dont you realise that if you run a 3" intake pipe, you lose all of your torque and power because you dont have the backpressure???!!!

No, just kidding. Move the battery to rear, and that will solve few problems. And it will get little better weight ratio.

yeah, i question your need to have a huge *** battery to begin with. Are you running 100+ A stereo amplifiers? If you don't need such a huge cranking supply and deep cycle, I would go with a stock size or smaller battery. I've got a little 450 crank amp sealed battery that only weighs 14 lbs.

My buddy had his battery in the back in Ohio he had a DOHC ZC, Deck, XM, sub, and amp and never had any problems with charging even in the winter. He did have some healthy gauge wire heading to the front of the car though.

I moved mine to behind my passenger seat in a box. Never had any problems, plenty of underhood space for upgrades

I would prefer not to relocate it because if I do I would have to rig up an external kill switch just for when I race at the track, and I'm not a big fan of that idea.... besides if I want a better weight ration, I'll just put some crap in the trunk oh wait theres already a 12" sub and an amunition box full of junk.... weight ratio fixed. but ya anyway I was hoping for some insight as to what other people have done, besides putting the battery in the rear or getting a tiny battery... (by the way I do have a moderate system, and like big batteries anyway )

if you were running an oem size battery would the hybrid intake work?

is your fitment problem due to bigger size battery? just trying to clear things up.

well as the oem intake pipe is about 2.5 inches outer diameter max and that was a close fit next to the + battery terminal, and this new one is 3" diameter (not sure if inner or outer) and metal next to + terminal... lol so would it be easy enough to mount the battery on its side perhaps? anyone do that before? it is a sealed battery so you can mount them however you want...

i guess you could mount it on the side if you want if its sealed, persoanally if your pressed for space i would just get a summitracing battery relocation kit and fix that prob

okay well I was wrong about space.... it seems that AEM realized that these EFs have the + terminal right where the intake goes and built the intake around it, so I would have to say this is by far the best intake you can do on a swapped ef!!!

the only modification I had to do was cut the hole where the intake sticks down towards the bumper a bit bigger with a dremel and I went through probably 12-15 cut off discs lol... only about 6 of them broke... so ya good install, bolts to the factoy air box bolt holes, and looks very very nice under the hood!

that is the hybrid intake for a B16/B18c5 into EF correct?

I am looking into getting this same exact intake since i have a B18C but i will be running the Blox Type R Style Intake Manifold.

Looks definately better than a regular AEM under the hood for sure.

Yeah I couldn't see why you would have problems running that setup if it's meant for the car.

yes its the b16 one.... and yes it looks good lol you should have seen what I had before... it was just about 6 inches of the original intake pipe left that was cut off in japan, with panty hose as a filter LOL.... glad to be rid of it, however I have to look for a new strut tower brace, as the one meant for the DX hits the intake, but thats ok.... not too concerned about that.
