Started cutting wires under dash to clean it up.....any tips or help???
So I've got a b18c5 in my rex and thats it besides gauges and the lights. I've pretty much got the bare necessities to keep it on the road. What I decided to do was take out the dash and get rid of all the pesky wires inside the car I didn't need so I could free up some room and keep only what I needed. What my question is, if I follow the lines for the speakers, ac and heat components, and stereo hook ups will I be ok cutting them as I go? Also have any of you done this because I've got them traced and cut from the passenger to drivers side now so there's no turning back. I can already tell all the crap on the drivers side is going to be a headache. My Haynes manual sucks for diagrams so I'm pretty much going off what I think is right.
Why would you do that, its not like you are going to see under your dash at all times, or
even store anything there, or its not like it is going to a weight differencet. I don't see
the point?

Yeah I know what your saying about weight difference but as far as seeing under there everything will be seen. I have no carpet and there will be no center column where the radio and stereo went. All I want to do is clean it up and get some more room where I won't have any problems wiring up my other gauges and routhing things around useless wires. Have you ever actually seen all the crap thats behind a dash? This post asks for tips and help by the way not critcism.
oh god. Why do I this feeling that you will be back in a month asking "why do my headlights not work?"
Anyways...get a HELMS

Nevermind, I see this post won't be getting anywhere. Get a Helms was all I really expected anyways.
I actually just finished doing this. Its a pita but the wiring looks really clean. Best thing to do when deleting the wires is to check all lighting ect after you remove the wires that way if you mess up you know the last thing you did caused the problem.
remember to not cut the atmospheric pressure sensor from the passenger side when you are removing/cutting wires from the heating/cooling system.

I'm doing alright so far. No codes yet as I have not yet cut anything to do with the engine or ECU. Its actually quite simple following the wires. Of course I'm over on the drivers side now wondering what to make of all the extra crap in front of me. I'm still following along with the wires I'm cutting but I'm curious what extra crap over on the drivers side is not needed too. Any suggestions that don't involve a helms or if I'm crazy for doing this would be nice.
a friend just gutted the harness in his hatch- he took everything out, separated the harness, and looked up all the wires and depinned and deleted the unneeded ones. (in his case, anything that didnt make the car run). saved at least 10 lbs. i held everything that came out and it was way heavier than expected. there is a ton of wire in these cars.
i dont really see the point in it, and can easily see how it could get you into trouble if you didnt know what you were doing, but if you have a spare 70 hours or so and arent afraid do it up. and take pics.
but id definately recommend getting a diagram so you know what you are cutting from now on...
