Ignition Problems?
About a week ago, my 89 civic would hesitate when accelerating... I'd give it gas and it just wouldn't go, finally it would catch and I would be on my way (at random)... Then while driving, it would do the same except, stall my car and now sometimes I can not start the car... I'll get it to turn over just fine, but it wont fire up...
Now... Garage told me alternator output is intermitted and thats the problem... But they're morons... The alternator goes on my honda about every 2nd year, so I have it rebuilt and i'm on my way... However, when I take it out for a rebuild... The car starts and runs just fine off the battery so techinally if my alternator is failing (which it probably is) it should not effect my car untillt he battery runs out...
Now, I was told by my friend to replace the wire from my battery to my starter because I have had corrosion problems in the past... I will do that just to be sure but it all appears ok to me... I've cleaned it and such... Just replaced the end link not long ago...
The other suggestion was the spark plug wires... I'm guessing this is my problem, or the spark plugs... I am able to guage and change the spark plugs, but I have no clue how to disconnect the spark plug wires (they have never been replaced)...
Could someone give me a breif step by step on how to remove them?
I would just like to know if I am correct in my assumptions about what is wrong... And yes I will keep an eye on my alternator, but I would like to know why it keeps dieing? and is there any way to protect it and keep it lasting longer than 1 - 2 years?
Thanks for you help, I appreciate it.
