head gasket thickness and valve timing (H23A1 93 SI Prelude)
When we have the 93 prelude si H23A1 head reworked - would it be feasable to install a thicker head gasket to reduce the compression ratio? This is a daily driver and regular gas would be great!
My major concern is chaning the gasket thickness or shaving the head would change the timing belt distance between the cams and the crank. It appears that this distance controlls valve timing and changing it at all could throw the entire motor off. I discussed this with a mechanic and they didn't think the change in distance would be significant enought to adversely affect valve timing. I think its a pretty good amount of crank angle that both valves are closed on the compression stroke. This is my first overhead cam engine to build and I am not sure.
What do you all think?
