is the dohc zc trans same thing as b-series?
jus curious...im thinkin no...but jus wanna check cuz they so cheap and my tranny is grindin like a **** and is geared not to my liking for highway driving
No, the ZC trans is a D series (somewhat, different from the US models, but still a D) and is not compatable with anything B series.

No you need a b series trans...the zc is a d series

I feel the ZC trans is superior to the Si Box....I ran a DOHC ZC with Exospeed stage 2 cams and 4-2-1 header....I needed BOTH hands on the wheel anytime in got into the gas with the Si box...(dislocated my thumb once from it when the wheel spun on me)
THe ZC box has effectively the same ratios (notice I said effectively) but the intermediate shaft cured the wicked torque steer I had with the Si Box...
plus they are far cheaper and have far fewer miles on them...

no, not effectively at all. only 4th is "effectively" similar to the Si, notice the graph.

right and I guess thats why my driveability and tach readings in every gear were nearly the same..........I only did about 40K on an Si box and another 60k with the ZC box...
comine the gearset ratio with the final drive ratio and the ZC and Si are pretty darned close...so close by watching the tach, the speedo and if you eliminate tourque steer..99% of the people driveing it would not know the difference.
and that chart for the DX box is way off...the 4 days I had one on mine I can tell you your speeds per gear are different.....a DX box will carry you far faster in every gear than either of the others...EVEN in 1st...where your chart shows the DX and ZC the same......wrong...the DX box will carry you to a far higher speed at the same revs than the Si and ZC....Mine hit 85 in second at redline...and I could it just shy of 55 in first with the DX box.....the car could not get out of its own way with that trans...
the ZC has a lower gear ratio in ever gear but a taller final drive...thats why the ZC hybrid box is so popular....low ZC gearset with low Si final drive....but an Hf 5th gearset for highway cruising..
Yeah you could get technical and prove they are not numericaly identical...but they are close enough the driver won't know the difference.....(and they won't just like Exxon and BP premium fuel )
But then....I've only driven this car since late 2000, what would I know about it...

DX is 3.88. Si is 4.25. ZC is 3.88.
first gear is the same for ALL D series trannies. 3.25
actually, in 88, the DX was like a 3.72, maybe thats what youre comparing to.
also, ive found the exact comparison between speedo and tach to be off from the theoretical numbers. but the physical difference of number of teeth in the gears cannot be ignored or fudged. the graph is correct. i take my numbers straight from the helms manual in the specification section.
you can download the whole spreadsheet here. ive made it available for everyone many weeks ago.
