Default Rota Auto X vs. SSR Type X

I have been looking for a set of SSR Type X's (black/red) for a while now. They are so hard to find and when I do find a set, something's wrong (ex: no center caps, one wheel having different offset). I don't want to get the Rota replicas because, well, they're replicas! However lately I have been concidering them over the SSR since my searching has been all for nothing so far...

Anyone have the Rota Auto X? Would you prefer SSR? How good are the Rotas to the SSR, like which is lighter or stronger?

The only upside so far to getting the Rota's IMO, is they're new. All Type X's will be used obviously, and it's hard to tell how true they'll ride etc.

The Rota Autox are one of the lighter Rota wheels but the SSRs are still lighter. I wouldn't worry about wheels breaking unless you plan on doing some curb jumping

I had a feeling the SSR's were lighter. The breaking thing I got from seeing lots of pics of Rota wheels that the spokes broke right off

Don't let those pics and misleading posts scare you. The most recent set discussed had already seen 2 full track seasons and were said to have gone off the track and such. For a $400 set of cast wheels, thats a pretty good life span

Are the SSR's forged? I don't THINK they are, which is why I would personally take the Rota version over it. It's a perfect copy, you get more color selection, and easy to get replacements should anything ever happen.

We've had no problems with the Auto-X breaking. I even have a set on my personal car. They're an excellent replica of a wheel that is nearly impossible to find. Contact us if you're interested in a set. We're an authorized Rota dealer and a site sponsor here on Honda-Tech.

What's the difference in forged vs cast? I can never remember Also, isn't the Auto X's lip different?

Forged is just a different process of making the wheels. Usually results in a stronger wheel with a lighter weight. I'm unsure of the weight of the SSR but the Rota version is still pretty light too

And I don't believe the lip is any different. I remember people saying that Rota bought the mold from SSR. Maybe that's true, or maybe just a rumor since the replica was that good

Hey there, this dude has a set for sale. They're not black with a red lip, but you could get that done.

I've got good news for you. I found you a set. Here's the link to the site selling it. They've got two sets. It's a local company in the Bay called Memory Fab.

That set has 3 wheels with +42 offset and one with +45, so no dice.

Other set is missing center caps, so no dice.

Me, personally, I would get the Rotas since you REALLY can't tell the difference between the two. To the extent where a friend of mine posted his car in the SSR type X thread here on HT with his Rota Autox's, and everyone was jizzing all over his car. Pretty funny.

But you see, if the wheel was like the Tenzo Morphix compared to the Mr5's...theres NO WAY Id buy the Morphix...its just TOO off, you could tell a mile away.

(Real Mr5's)

That and what you stated above, really supports the Rotas even more. Ive had my fair share of used (JDM or not) wheels and let me tell you...Ive ALWAYS had some kind of shimmy or shake no matter how hard I eye balled the wheels for straightness b4 purchasing. No type of hub ring, lug nut, or balancing method would cure the certain shakes (even tho very small)...its just one of those things.

I'd like to know what the exact weight difference is between the SSR and Rota. I don't see paying almost double for an unmatched set of wheels just to say they are SSR's

The Rotas are 12.5lbs from what I have read and I'm guessing the SSR's would be in the 10 range....

Either way I am going with Rotas because they make a good quality wheel
