According to C&R, the 19-21 psi cap is their low pressure cap, and is the same pressure as a Mugen cap, for instance. I've had leaks in several different locations, and was told by C&R that this was due to pressure being introduced into the system, and not because of the higher than stock cap pressure rating. I thought the problem was solved when my IACV hoses were shortened, and the lower radiator clamp was repositioned. Since then, I've seen some coolant residue near the bottom of the radiator hose connection, but nothing major. Perhaps coincidentally, since I've recently been using the heater, the leaks have come back, but now I'm seeing residue from the upper hose going into the radiator.

Questions...Does using the heater introduce more pressure? Should I be using worm drive clamps instead of the stock ones?

 

I have to use worm drive on my lower hose or it leaks, but I use stock on the top.


why would you run a pressure that high? seems to high to me but im a ford tech so im used to 16 being normal.

The 1.1bars are the 16 you are used to, the stock honda caps. Aftermarket ones tend to be 1.3bar though, 19psi

There should be no leaking anywhere, i use worm gears on both outlets though to seal well.

I'm using the cap that came with the radiator. They don't sell a lower psi cap.

Maybe I need new hoses as well? Are those Samco hoses a ricer item, or do they possibly seal better?

Also, does anyone have an answer to my other question about the heater introducing more pressure when in use?

If anything the heater would introduce pressure-drop. It would be pulling heat out of the system, which would reduce the pressure due to energy lost and a greater volume to fill/flow through.

IMO you shouldn'y use stock hose clamps. They were made to save Honda money, and a multi-pack of worm clamps on ebay is less than the cost of a pizza. Every small clamp in my engine bay is a worm clamp now - got 75 100% stainless for $2.50 (clearance ).

 

Thanks, you're probably right. I'm just trying to make sense out of why it happens when it does. I'll start off by upgrading hoses and clamps.
