Default OT: Harbor Freight Cordless Impact?

I bought mine almost a year ago, and recently my charger took a crap...anyone else have the same problem?

Also, if you look through the online catalog, they only sell the battery but not the charger separately.

You truly get what you pay for with HF. I will absolutely never ever buy anything from that shithole of a store ever again.

hmm, i know what you mean, but this impact has truly been the greatest tool i've ever used, especially since it cost $129. it hasn't met a nut/bolt it couldn't best like a true champ.

my charger's still going strong. not sure where you'd buy the charger, maybe give them a call? if not, maybe call chicago electric?

I have often wondered if they are good value for money?
I've never been able to keep one long enough to see just how long they last... Ive had three ... All stolen!
But I guess I got about $120.00 worth of use out of each of them?

What is it worth to get 20 lug nuts on and off three or four cars at the track, say 4 times each on a race weekend? Compared to using a Nitrogen bottle as we do now.
Perhaps three HF Cordless Impact's per season is cheap?

Had mine over 2 years now, never a problem. Battery charge lasts all weekend at the track.

It seems like it's a hit-or-miss thing ... tons of people swear by it then you get a handful of people who have nothing but problems. Mine has been performing flawlessly for the last year or so.

got a photo of the charger anywhere? If it's the same as mine, I'll send you mine. My HF impact took a crap while trying to remove a stuck exhaust bolt. Started smoking. After it cooled, I couldn't get more than 1 or 2 hits out of it before the battery died. The whole gun just refuses to work now, leaving me with a charger that I was considering tossing.

Mine would not hold a charge after a few months use, and I didn't know if was the battery or the charger. I took it to the store, got some slight hassles about how they weren't supposed to do in-store exchanges for stuff that was ordered online. In the end they swapped out the whole thing for me. See how long the warranty is on it. IIRC the online manual has that info.

Two plus years later, mine has been invaluable in tearing apart the donor and building my new racecar.

Several of my fellow SM drivers have purchased the 19.2v impact based on my recommendation, and all are still happy.

Nearly 3 years of use now, $120 to replace if it craps out. Yeah, I'll get another (unless I win the Powerball tonight, in which case I'll get a person to do that work for me.)

1 1/2 later mine is still going strong. And I've used it almost 40 weekends this year.

George's Craftsman one is starting to give out.. I don't know if its just the battery or the clutches.. Its been WELL used for over 3 years now.. Its starting to have trouble taking 90ftlb lugnuts off.. I'll get another battery and see if that helps.

Mine worked great for 2+ years now including a stint of being the main impact gun for a new shop that opened up until they got their air running.

Only a lost charger prevented me from using it more We have a pimpy *** Snap On now though (I didn't pay for it ) that should last us the rest of our lives.

After seeing this deal though, it would be the one I get if I was shopping now. Variable trigger, 2 batteries, 5 year warranty and with a 10% off coupon its $240. Worth it if you ask me

Harbor Freight has some excellent products, and they also have some crap. I bought an angle grinder from them for $14.99 about 3 years ago. From day one, it sounded like the bearings in it were ready to seize, but they haven't yet and I use it almost daily. I picked up an 18V battery drill because the batteries for my Makita went bad, all at once, and I was able to buy the HF drill and 3 extra batteries for the same price as 1 makita battery. The chuck sucked, but I picked up a Jacobs chuck and all is well. I've been using the drill daily for about 3 months with no problems. There are some things that you can buy at HF and some things better left for Sears or Snap-On.

Pep Boys is selling a Goodyear Racing 24 volt cordless impact gun for like $95. It comes with 4 sockets for wheel nuts and hold a charge for a weekend. We killed one and had no issues getting a replacement and the best part is that there are like 50 million of those stores around so it's easy to replace.

The good thing about HF stuff is you have to break the **** like 3 or 4 times before you've passed up the cost of a name brand unit.

hmm i believe that one is diff from mine.

mine is a 19.2 V that makes 220 ft-lbs of torque--that model appears to make only 140.

I've actually been impressed with it so far. Took the flywheel bolts right off on my buddy's Nissan KA24, and I use it as a autocross/track impact. I just plop it in the charger one day, and none of the lights light up, and after a day of sitting in the cradle, it's like it hasn't charged it at all.

Anyone got a spare 19.2v charger sittin' around?

I agree I tried that one and it's pretty whimpy. I also have the 220 ft/lbs version.
