Default Integra newbie - power lock related...

(First, an introduction...)

Hey Fellas (and ladies),

I just bought my first Integra ('98 LS, 5 Speed) to be my daily driver. As I drive 90 miles a day (45 one way to work) I needed something fun yet economical so I picked this beater up...

Mechanically it's in very good shape, 85,000 miles, very solid and smooth all the way around. Cosmetically it looks like ***, but I don't care about that - I'll fix it over time.

(Now, onto specific questions...)

I'm attempting to get the interior up to snuff (as that's where I spend my time) then I'll worry about the exterior. I've already found the FAQ and some great guides but I have a few specific questions that I haven't found anything on yet...

I have a '98 LS with power locks - unfortunately they don't work as they should.

When I lock or unlock any/all doors with the keys from the outside everything works as it should as far as I can tell.

When inside the car (with all doors closed) and I press unlock from either door, both doors unlock.
When inside the car (with all doors closed) and I press lock from either door only the passenger door locks. (Maybe the rear does too, I'm not sure...)

Bottom line is, when pressing lock, regardless of door position or which door I press lock from, the driver's door never locks, but using the key from the outside cures this.

I have also noticed that the two locks (passenger and driver's side) aren't in the same position. When unlocked, the corner sticks out on the passenger lock so you can snag it and manually lock it (as I'm guessing it should be) - but on the driver's door it's rotated back all the way so it's flush with the door... (don't know how much, if at all this matters...)

I ripped open the door panel yesterday and inspected it visually, but nothing stood out. The wire guides are where they should be as far as I can tell...

Any idea what part of my locking system needs my attention? I'm not familiar with power locks but I can learn easily enough...

Oh, and when all doors are unlocked, the switch under the hatch won't release. I always have to use the key to open the hatch. Are these two related, or two different failures?

I want to add keyless entry and a security system to this car and I'm assuming I need to remedy these issues first...

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks!

the drivers door will not lock with the button if the door is open, i think its to prevent locking your keys in your car, get a keyless entry or alarm if this bothers you.

This I fully understand - but it should lock with the door closed, right?

I had this exact same problem... I noticed my security system wasn't locking my driver side door anymore... spent an hour trying to figure it out and couldn't

as a last resort i sprayed the the mechanisim (SP) in the door where it locks with a lot of WD40... works GREAT! haven't had any problems since.

Hope that helps you out.

What mechanism is it that you sprayed down? The lock itself, or the thingamabob (I'm pretty sure that's the technical term) that the other end of the guide wire is connected to?

(Did that even make sense?)

What about my hatch issue? Could that be related or is that most likely another seperate (bonus!) issue?

i took off my door panel and took of the plastic clear cover and looked back at where the door actually locks to the car. where the 2 metal rodes from your door handle (inside) lead... and sprayed the hell out of it. that fixed it right up.

as for the hatch I never use my hatch release. I use my key.

If you still don't know what i'm talking about i'll take pictures.

edit: be sure to spray it from inside the door... not from the outside. there's nothing to spray from outside.

Will do - I won't get a chance to rip it apart until this weekend most likely, but I'll keep this thread updated when it happens...

Since the doors are locking from the outside, it has to just be a problem with your inner lock mechanism. Pop off the panel on the other side an have a look to compare it. To be honest WD40 sounds like a good idea, it's obviously just something sticking, or possibly something strained...maybe a touch of bending might cure it!
