Ok, a while back I posted about my dad's 92 accord not shifting right. Periodically he'll start it up and take off and it trys to take off in 3rd (automatic). He can put it down into first manually and shift it all the way back up to third manually but when he puts it in "D4" it won't go into it. Also, when it does this and he puts it into first the D1 and D4 lights will both be lit. He can fix it by stopping and reseting the computer. Also, he just told me that periodically all the dummy/warning lights will come on while he's driving down the road and then cut back off again. The tranny was just rebuilt about 6,000 miles ago and we've already checked the gear indicator switch under the console behind the shifter. What's the matter w/this car?!

I'd also check and clean all grounds to the block including the ground at the T-stat housing.
All the dummy lights going off and on is a typical problem of a bad ignition switch.

 

When you turn the key on, the d4 light is supposed to come on, then go off. If it does'nt go off,(Stays lit continuously) it's the computer. $450 from dealer, maybe cheaper somewhere else.

 

Ok, he just informed me that the only lights that are coming on are the "door ajar light" and the light that tells you that one of your brake lights is out. Also, the D4 light does go out after a bit when you turn the key on.
