Isīnt it a waste of money when buying a Spoon or Mugen ECU for Spoon or Mugen setup? I mean for the same money I can have a standalone ECU which can be reprogrammed everytime I make changes to the eninge setup. Also I can make more power from a standalone than from a Spoon ECU with Spoon setup, cause every car is different.

Totally agree...
But some people buy certain ECU's cause they don't have access to facilities to dyno tune a programmable stand alone ECU. Aftermarket pre-programmed ECU's are for people who prefer plug and play.

I would tend to agree that the stand-alone system is more versatile but it depends on what we are talking about. For example, to me, an Apex VAFC is not a stand alone system, its a trick piece but that's all it is. You'd have to show me a Power FC or a Haltech, then I would call it a stand-alone, programmable system. Even then, you still need your OEM ECU as base. So when you add up the cost of one of these systems plus the dyno-time and all the extras, you would have been better off buying a pre-programmed ECU.
Myself, I am still trying to find someone reputable to set up my 2001 ITR ECU with a Spoon or Mugen program !!! Anyone ???

I may consider selling my Mugen ECU in the next couple months (once turbo'd).
E-mail me (edward.pipala@uspto.gov) if interested (but beware .. I'm not planning on "giving" it away). Ed
