Default D16 from Hmotorsonline

I ordered my D16 from HMotors and was wondering how I could identify what kind of D16 it is? The sticker on the timing belt case is gone, so I really have no idea how else to identify it. It's from a 95 4 Door Sedan Automatic, and I pulled the AT plate off and put it into my civic.

Take a look on the left front side of the motor. Just below the head should be a slanted part of the block that says like "D16Y8" or D16Y7", I can post a pic if you want.

If its from a 95, it'd be a d16z6 (EX). The other civics of that model year were all d15's. If in doubt of it being vtec, open the valve cover, look at the rocker arms on the intake side - you should see a half-size rocker arm stuffed between them, and 5 cam lobes per cylinder.

No, they don't even have D16's listed on the website. The guy told me it was because they come in and go out so quick, so they usually only stick stuff that is around for a while and is more desired on the website.

Not many people really want a D16 VTEC SOHC.

Yikes.. did you look around your area at all first? I got a 1999 D16Y8 for like $150.00 from a local yard w/49k miles on it. Lot of shops that do a lot of swaps are begging for people to take F22's, d16's etc away too.

No sh*t. I've never heard of this motor either... could be one of the sohc zc motors. As-far as I know none of the ZC's came with anything near 140hp...?
My "ZC" was a D16a6 and it was the DOHC nonvtec (actually out of a 87 LS integra.. but everyone called it the zc).

And for the original poster-- I sold my entire Z6 swap for $200 + an intake. you got robbed. At least you have a warranty.

It's not a zc but it did exist. I've seen pics of it.

http://www.angelfire.com/ex2/turbo_vti/ Aparently it also came in VTis

in this guy's case, his car is an EX and the d16a was a straight bolt in.

well that shows that a d16a actually exists, if you can belive the market on the valve cover. but...... all japanese 1.6L SOHC engines are called "ZC". therefore, the d16a is not a japanese engine, and so i have a hard time believing that 1.) a sohc engine ever had 140hp, and 2.)if it did, it would surely come out in japan and not some other country.

from modifying single cams, i find it hard to belive that they made an additional 15 horsepower without changing the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, or pistons (you ever seen a high compression "d16a" piston? me either)

I've seen pics of the engine code stamped "D16A" and it was a sohc vtec. Now, the info I came up with could be "of doubtful source" but the engine does exist. It was even here on HT.

I don't doubt the d16 existed (i had one). I doubt that they made anywhere near 140hp.
I quick search yeilded these.... I'm gonna keep looking though..

88-91 HONDA CIVIC EX SOHC 16V EFI (=ZC SOHC) D16A 1.6 4 CALL
88-91 HONDA CIVIC WAGON 4WD SOHC 16V EFI (=ZC SOHC) D16A 1.6 CALL
88-91 HONDA CRX SI SOHC 16V EFI (=ZC SOHC) D16A 1.6 4 CALL

They also came in the 98' Honda Domani... that could be the winner...!

You see the EFs are "d16a's" but they are technically ZC's because that's what is stamped on the block.

The domani could be it, tho.
