Slight ticking coming from valves on 97 GSR.....what could it be???
Like the post says, today after coming back from the car wash, I heard a very slight ticking coming from my valves. I know its normal for VTEc B-Series to have a slight different sound coming from their valvetrain when compared to non-VTEC B-series, the ticking today was a tad bit higher than usual.
Someone once told me that VTEC motors need to have their valves adjusted over time. Maybe that's the case. Does this mean I have to adjust my valve lash? If so, can someone point me in the right direction as far as adjusting it? Or am I just over-reacting and the car is ok?
I rarely drive the car hard, only going into VTEC maybe 3 times in the week cuz I don't drive the car much...it usually sits M-F. (yes, I can count how many times in a week I hit VTEC..gas is expensive so I don't hit VTEC alot)
Please help me....is it valve lash adjustment it needs? How do I perform this myself on my car? Or am I just worrying too much?

Sounds like you need to adjust the valves. BTW, most if not all Honda engines need periodic valve adjustments, not just VTEC motors.

oh, ok...how do I go about performing this....I know how to do most things to my car, but this is something I'm going to be new to.
Basically working on my car is a learning experience everyday.

yes adjust your valves just get yourself i forget what they are called but they measure the clearance in the valves, it would be easier if you had someone help you, otherwise u just need that tool i mentioned (3$ at auto zone) a screw driver and i think a 10mm wrench

could it be a feeler gauge? I have those.

I thought mine were loud as well, but they were perfectly within proper adjustment. I think its the injectors that make the majority of the noise. Either way, adjustment took me a good 2 hours, so just take your time, it isn't hard to do.
