Should I fix it?
Hello All,
Although I haven't really posted much, I've visited this board religiously for about the last five years of my life.... I recently was involved in a collision and ended up buying my 98 ITR back from my insurance company as a cash settlement (car is not branded salvage). I've sourced out a used door and cut passenger quarter panel. My question to the honda-tech community is do you think I should fix it?
Please see the following pics; your honest opinions are greatly appreciated:

I agree. Assuming the mechanical and interior components are all undamaged, you will most likely have better luck sourcing a replacement shell and transferring everything over rather than trying to repair this car. You'd have the option of choosing an ITR shell or going with a different Integra model (or even a Civic) depending upon your plans for the car and your budget.

damn.. yeah it looks like it's gonna be hard to fix.. but yeah like these guys said..
you might wanna use this car for part car.. and try to pick up an itr shell. or get a civic and put all ITR parts there.
sorry to see that

damn, another one retired from a diminishing breed
unless you or someone you know is willing to invest the kind of money and time it will take to bring her back to the way she was, i would salvage what i can and walk away
it is not worth it to fix her up and realize after time and money spent that she just no longer drives the same.

Completely fixable!
Body transplant?
Where do you guys come up with this ****? It's not a Mid-80's GM car where you could lift the body off the chassis and drop another one on. These cars are a unibody design which happens to be pretty strong.
Replace door, replace quarter panel, pull post and rocker panel and replace, the big work is over and the car should be fine.

Exactly. No one is saying that the car isn't repairable, but given the choice, I'd much rather find an otherwise unmolested shell with original paint and no prior repairs that I could transfer all of the components into.

hell yea that was the same exact thing i was going to suggest
integra bodies in general are a lot more stronger than most people think.
easy fix, it will just take a lil bit more time then the average door replacing.

I had a feeling I would get mixed responses....
I feel the same way in that I want my car back but only if it will drive the same.
I just can't see myself driving a civic with swapt parts.
Question: Will a JDM drivers door bolt up to a USDM chassis (passenger)? I figure I could just swap the window swicth.
Decisions, decisions.....

get an ITR sheel from a salvage yard. swap the parts.
i would never drive a car that's been hit that hard... sure, it can be fixed, but it'll never feel like it's from the factory.

My friend told me that JDM integras doors were longer ???
I have no proof either way, but when he was researching a full JDM conversion for the R, he said that you cant really do a full JDM conversion because the doors were a little longer on the JDM teg.
Is this a pile of rubbish ?
maybee someone with a jdm r could measure the length of their door and one of us usdm guys could compare the measurements.

Did no one else read this. Most important thing is the titled is stamped as SALVAGED. I think it would be worth your money to fix. Why salvage an R that doesn't have a salvage title. I wouldn't buy a salvaged shell just put my non salvaged ITR to rest. RESALE VALUE..... who knows maybe you can get a good price for the non salvaged shell.... just my 0.02 good luck with whatever you do...

If I were you I will take it to a body shop and they take a look at it , I think that it can be fixed , I saw more damage in a car than that and they fix it and bring it back to life , If you bring it to where I live they say it`s an easy job
Good Luck

i've read articles in the past of ultra rare vintage automobiles being resurrected after looking a lot worse than this R...beyond recognition even. some of these cars were made in extremely low numbers and that gave credence to a rebuild. these cars had experts from all over the country...mechanics, bodymen restorers etc chime in and you can imagine the time, money and effort it took to get the car restored.
if there was a known existence of only 10 ITRs left in the world, then i can see the merit of such a rebuild. but as much as i hate seeing the numbers drop and one less itr in the planet, i would just accept what fate has given this R and find me another. i highly doubt the best of the best in the country will work on fixing this R...sure what you see can be repaired and made to look good again, but how about what you dont see and what you will feel when driving it.

Get the car on a jig and find out how out of sync it is before deciding. It looks totally fixable to me and i have seen cars with worse quarter panel damge and roof damage fixed to perfection. I would say fix it!
That is a hard repair and will require a bunch of jig time.. It can be done though along with a bunch of re welding spot welds. That would make a good track car since you could put a cage in and offset the body damage but as a street car not so much. find a theft chassis and transplant every thing over.
