90 crx si (d16a6)

blows white (blueish) smoke from the exhaust. sometimes alot and sometime not much at all. the car has died on me twice recently. after it dies, it won't start for about 20 min. after it starts is when it blows ALOT of smoke. then the next day it will barely blow any.
i just did a compression check and the numbers (166, 165, 164, 165) seem to be good.

what else should i check to see if its the head gasket?

or am i totally wrong thinking head gasket? is it something else?

 

do you have to add coolant at all? have you checked the coolant level.

 

i stopped driving it when this started, so it hasn't really had a chance to burn enough coolant (if thats what the problem is) to be noticeable in the overflow tank.

 

blueish smoke is oil....

when its doing this does the smoke smell sweet....antifreeze in the exhaust has a very pronounced and distinctive odor to it.

 

i dunno about smelling sweet, but it definately isn't oil. i know what that smells like when burning.

 

usually when theres a blown headgasket theres 2 cyl's that are right next to each other that read alot lower then the rest.
