Default help on choosing a motor for my base model hatch

i copied this from carolindahondas.com just so i can get more answers, i need some asap, i get my money wednesday.

im looking at three different b18a/b's right now..and one b16a1. prices vary from $200 full swap to $1200 full swap. the deciding factor in all of this relies on difficulty of installation alone. there are two main questions i really need answers to. i have a base model, dpfi 1990 civic hatchback w/ 4 speed manual cable tranny.

1. is there any difference speaking in terms of installation (excluding v-tec) between the OBD-0 b18 engine/tranny, and the OBD-0 b16a engine tranny. someone said the mounts were different or wiring was different or something, but he wasnt sure, and from what i understand, b series mounts are all the same, and all youd have to wire up was the mpfi. i need this to be verified.

2. one of the b18's, im pretty sure, is an OBD-1 w/ hydro tranny (the guy dropped it right into a 92 hatch, so im assuming it is, but he doesnt know for sure) i can get the harness and everything with the swap as well as the ecu. what would need to be done to convert my base model 1990 civic hatch to OBD-1 w/ hydro tranny, and would it be any more challenging than dropping in an OBD-0 b18a engine/tranny? would wiring be any more difficult, could i just use to OBD-1 harness or modify the factory harness to work? would i need to change my speedometer or anything like that? i need all info possible on goin from OBD0 to OBD1, with short cuts where possible.

just to clear up anything, as far as what would be more cost effective and stuff like that, prices are below.

1. B18a full swap with about 120,xxx miles (may need to be rebuilt, been sitting a while and car was rear ended really really hard, back end is crushed up to drivers seat)- $200

2. b18a jdm full swap, very low miles, never installed - $1100

3. b18a/b? possibly obd1 w/ hydro tranny full swap w/ less than 100,xxx miles (new mounts for 92+ civic included) -$900

4. b16a1 full swap fresh from japan- $1200

(if anyone knows where other options may be for NO more than $1200 but preferably less, let me know)

any B-series swap on your car will require engine, transmission, ECU, mount kit and shift linkage from someone like Hasport, 90-93 Integra axles and intermediate shaft - you will need to swap the front knuckles/hubs for ones from 88-91 Civic/CRX DX or Si - you will need a new exhaust system all the way back - you will need to do the DPFI to MPFI wiring changes - for a B-series swap, figure on spending about $2000 minimum - you could do a DOHC ZC or SOHC ZC for a lot less

all good info

i say get the b16 full swap for $1200, that's a pretty good price and the b16 is a great motor.

i really appreciate this. but im still in the dark about the OBD0-OBD1 conversion. any help on that would help me decide what to go with for sure.

i remember seeing something about having to replace the knuckles but i couldnt find the info the other night when i was lookin for it. someone i hang out with told me tonight that "ALL" b series transmissions are interchangeable with "ALL" b series blocks. by that im reffering to cable trannys will bolt up to a b series that came with hydro and vice versa. i originally considered a dohc zc, but then someone put me in the direction of going b series in my ef (i have an eg and planned on doin a gsr swap), but they said, for the money, b16 would come out better than a zc. my future plans for my ef consist of getting an ls-vtec fully built for street/strip w/ lsd. i figured id just get an ls or b16 for the time being so i can already have it set up for b series, and have a better motor in the car than my pos d15b2 that has fried piston rings. anyways, if anyone knows what has to be added to an obd0 harness to make it work with an obd1 motor or an easier way to get an obd1 motor to work in and obd0 car id greatly appreciate it.
