Default is this safe?

I installed springs on my hatch, but while installation a buddy mentioned that I could take off the front circlear clips that slid on to the bottom of the shock and and have a small tooth for mating with the fork in the rear. He said I could remove that and gain about half inch. Is this safe to do? Is it safe it bold the fork compression bolt really tightly?

Yo! I wouldn't recommend it. It provides guidance and a snug fit. Your ride is going to be fine anyway. If they are stock shocks, it's going to be bouncy most of the time(speaking from lowering experience difficulties for the time being myself). What kind of springs did you buy? Did you get aftermarket shocks with them too?
