Carbon Fiber Interiors.....
Ok I was just wondering on Carbon Fiber interiors. Would carbon fiber inserts, gauge pods, or anything like that on the interior be considered rice or to much? I aint goin for the color carbon fiber, just plain carbon fiber. I know its my car and do what I want and I will but I just want to know some H-T members opinions. thanks
As long as I dont have to take out any more Metal Gears

Everyone here is going to tell u its rice. I say, its your car and you can do whatever u want regardless of what other people think.
I think the dash kits are fugly and rice, but gauge pods might look ok with the right interior off-setting it. Stuff like that looks better on like a 2005 rather than the eg's, i just like the car the way it was made.
my car is a ek not eg. but it really doesnt make much different. the only thing i planned on was the gauge cluster bezel in carbon fiber. my interior is going to be set up like this....black carpet, sparco racing seats(black/grey), sparco steering wheel(not colored), ARC Shift ****, Type R Shift Bood, Gauge works full pillar, type r rear seats (if i can find them)....is this rice to you all? just wondering
yes it was created to save weight, yet many these days use it as a stylish addition to the exterior of there cars. I mean i have no problem with it, cause I have thought many times about a Carbon Fiber hood for my car OEM of course. But what is the different in putting it inside then on the outside for looks? I aint tryin to say i am right and you all are wrong but I am just wondering? If I did do this it would be a few pieces not the whole interior.

You know your setup is close to mine but mine is an EG coupe. To me if you want to do it do it. Just do what makes you happy and forget about what other people think.

Think about it, not everyone has the same ideas, or intentions for their car. Some are go, and some are show, there are some who like both. I feel that if you want carbon fiber interior parts, get them. If you don't get what you want out of them, just sell them and move on..
You see i was gonna go with CF panels. There is a vendor on here that sells them. But i jus wonder how much i have to work on them to keep them from fading and shyt. Here in Florida just kills my dark interior.

benefits you by weight reduction? well your not goin to notice the whole 7 pounds different sorry, yes it will help overall if you fully gut the car. but 7 pounds aint goin to make a different.

I don't think it's "rice" for one reason. It's just a style like the color of your interior. Some people want black, some want grey. Some like silver or brushed metal accents while others like plain plastic or maybe even carbon fiber.
As far as an entire dash in carbon fiber, I think that's pretty rice because it's pretty much a big waste of money. As far as small things like guage pods , who really gives a expletive what it looks like? It's an addition to the car, have it look how you want it to look.

lord i would never get a whole carbon fiber dash, even if someone gave it to me lol i would sell it lol. the only things i really thought about in carbon fiber was gauge pod, climate control unit, vents, window controls, and door handle covers. but that all is pushing it even for me. that is the most i would get

Most good carbon hoods will offer a bigger weight difference than seven pounds. And every little bit helps, whether you can feel it or not.
-Kendall, whose CX should break the 1700 lb barrier by the end of the month

my point is though some of these guys that put carbon fiber hoods on for looks will put a system in or something that will make up for the weight they lost and they are back at square one. i just think worrying about weight reducion is retarded if your not goin to fully gut the car. and if it 7 pounds of 15 pounds it may make a different but its only every 100 pounds takes what is it .1 off ur time. which means that whole 15 pounds would take about .015seconds off which could make a different in winning and lose in some cases but if it was that close i would worry about but most of the time you can make up .015 seconds in ur driving.

Your logic is flawed in making those assumptions. First off weight reduction as a whole is not only for acceleration benefits, but for deceleration and handling benefits as well. You also have to take into consideration the front:rear weight ratio of the car.
The 100 lbs = .1 second is a very poor generalization being that it deals absolutely nothing with gearing or aerodynamics. You also have to consider the fact that not everyone's a drag racer.

poor assumption that the lighter something is the faster it can go? look i aint sayin that every 100lbs. is exactly .1 seconds off ur time but its a pretty good rule of thumb i do believe. and yes i know its better for deceleration why? cause its a lighter car again it takes alot less to mkae something that weights less to stop it than something that is really heavy. i mean it will take less hp to make a lighter car go faster and less to stop it. and more to make a heavy car fly and stop. but my point is that 15 pounds wont goin to make that world of difference unless its a beginning to a long process of replacing everything with carbon fiber parts, gutting the interior, trunk, and lightening up the whole car.

OK then, have it your way since you've made it so obvious to the world that I don't know what I'm doing. From now on, anything less than 100 lbs of weigh reduction is simply not worth it.
If you're looking for other stylish things to do, why not take a stock hood, a couple of sheets of carbon fiber fabric and some epoxy and make your own "stylish hood" for less than a hundred bucks. I'll bet if you secure it correctly and do a good sanding/buffing job when you're done it won't look that bad either.

Just to add my perspective as a euro tuner into the equation because sometimes import vs. euro modding see thing things differently.
In my opinion, and please don't flame because this is coming from how I see it but most import tuners either go for 1) flash and show i.e. neon interiors and full blown over the top customizing, 2) half assed painting of dashes that always crack and peel, wires EVERYWHERE in the cabin or 3) JDM look and feel i.e. clean, understated, detail oriented installations that not everyone would catch on first glance.
I guess you have to figure out where you want to go but in my eyes, I love clean and simple. Being a euro guy, I spend every ounce of cash I have on german OEM parts that don't come factory in US models. I strive to make my interior as clean and clutter free as possible. CF to me is too distracting with the weave and gloss for my eyes to be looking at on a constant basis while I am driving.
Just my 2¢.
Here's my interior for example. I replaced the vents with jetta vents that close flush to clean up the dash, ordered R32 aluminum pieces to replace my factory woodgrain and finally swapped an entire R32 interior (pillar covers, headliner handles etc etc) to make it black instead of tan.
