Default DC2 carbon hatch question.

Is it an issue on the 98+ DC2's considering the latch mechanism is different (electric) rather than cable operated? Thanks!

All of the cable/electronic crap is contained within the body of the car, not the hatch. All the hatch has is the one little latch. All of the hatches are interchanged without problems as there are no functional differences in the locking mechanisms. This means that any carbon hatch will fall under the same circumstances.

About seven hundred bucks on acuraautomotiveparts.org. I can imagine scoring one at a junkyard for no more than a hundred bucks.

I got the lexan windows for my CX from a company called Ken's Custom Chassis. They require some trimming, but fit so perfect it's not even funny.

Ken's uses Speedglass right? That's the best stuff around really... scratch resistant lexan, and light as hell. I'd recommend putting a tint on it to hold it together in case of a collision (it'll help a little) ----> especially since it's not DOT certified.

Speaking of which, I'll be getting speedglass all around on my dc2...and I actually do HAVE the CF hatch already (although fitment is off...hopefully I'll fix it when I replace the glass and remount it).

<---- Another victim of glass/other vandalism... friggn' haters [JDM front dc2-R]

There's a jerkoff State Trooper around here that was waiting on a friend of mine as soon as he the dyno shop where he works. He didn't get out of 2nd gear when he had the blue lights on him. He got a tounge lashing about his lexan glass. This guys got a real agenda about stupid stuff like this. Another cop-import-hater.

Yes, Ken's uses Speedglass and it is pretty much the best on the market (it's also expensive as hell). There's this particular window film called Hurricane Film (primarily used on buildings in areas subject to hurricanes) that I'm thinking about getting as it reinforces the hell out of glass and/or lexan when applied to the exterior. In addition I'm thinking about a slight tint on the inside of the windows just to help hide the fact that they are indeed lexan.

Anyway, my windows cost just under $1100 for all six of them, and the hurricane film is about $150 a roll. Hell, I may just rock the windows as is, I can get away with it around here.

Actually, you're somewhat mistaken about this. On the cars with electronic latches, the electronic "release" switch is located on the hatch itself, with the wires running through the hatch down to the latching mechanism located in the car. While you could indeed install a hatch from a car that was equipped with a cable-operated latch (or in this case, a carbon fiber hatch), there would be no electronic switch to activate the mechanism. Instead, one would need to use the keyhole beneath the hatch to open it.

Damn it. I hate when I've been misinformed. Thanks for the correction.

honestly, I feel if your going to do the CF hatch... it might as well be functional instead of just bling. So see if you can get some of that plexiglass I think its "FAL" or something like that, anyways at least then your shaving weight off the car and not just being a bling star.

I'm not certain about the SpeedGlass that Kendall referenced (you can contact Ken's Kustom Chassis to get the information from them) but Top End Motorsports has the FAL rear window for $375 shipped.
