My MPH gauge is going crazy i need help? I have a check engine like on too.
On my way to work this morning. I notice i had a check engine light on and my Mph guage was bouncing all over the place, but the RPM guage was normal. Sometime is would be a 0mph when it suppose to be at 70mph and then from 0 mph to 80 and 40 and so on it's going crazy. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? The checking engine light was also on. what should i check for? what cause the guage act like that?
i'm still at work so i have not gotten a chance to check the code. I'm just a little worried that i don't make it home
what is the vss? is it gone bad?

that would affect the RPM gauge not the speed gauge.

could be VSS or secondary o2 or your battery alternator and fuse box...if one of those goes then the others do...the secondary oz alternator and vss are all conected somehow so when the fuse blows the all could malfunction...My secondary o2 was shorting oun on my exhaust and it mad my cluster go crazy and my alt wouldnt run therfor battery took a ****...all i did was change the fuse for them and all was fixed
just got back form lunch. I think the it's the vss thing. I did not get a checkin light whne i started the car this time. I notice the mph only start to act up once i go over 60 mph then it jumps to 80 and so on. If i keep it under 60 mph then it's normal. If it's the vss do i have to replace it and is it hard? Can i look at it to see if it damage? could my tranny fluid be low?

Not hard to replace.
It's also easy to check your tranny fluid.
I still say get the code from the CEL before you do anything. It's easy.
Red is the fill / place to check.
Blue is the drain.

thank you booker. I wonder if it could be some wire gotten loose behind the cluster or something loose. Ever since i got the omni sport coilover it seem everything on the car gotten loose. I mean the suspension has such a harsh ride i feel like it is just jerking everything loose including the wire. Is that possible? Is there a way for me to check the vss to make sure it's good before i go purchasing a new one? because i don't really want to purchase a new one and find out it some wiring problem. So how do i check to see if the vss is bad or could be the problem without purchasing a new one?

$20 says it is a corroded VSS connector. The VSS sensor itself rarely goes bad, however it is not uncommon for that connector to become corroded. You can try cleaning it, but it may be just as easy to find one on a bone yard and splice it into your harness.

I tried taking out the VSS, but I think I did it wrong. I pulled the three screws in the transmisson and the only thing that came up was the black plastic cover, I think that is the sensor. I was told that was the wrong way to do it and I was only supposed to pull one long bolt, and everything was supposed to come up from the transmisson. I was trying to pull everything out of the transmission by hand but the only thing that came out was a little pin.
What should I do? Should I put the pin back into the transmission and bolt back up the screws and pull the entire unit out? I was also told that there might be a little spring that might of fallen out when I pulled all three bolts, did I damage anything? I also wanted to know if any VSS from other model B-series tranny can work?, because someone I know might have an extra VSS from a B16 tranny. Could someone please tell me the steps and the proper way of taking out and putting back the VSS, should the whole unit come out or just the top part? My tranny is the JDM Integra Type R with the 4.7 final drive, does that make a difference in terms of what VSS to use?

no...the vss has gears attached to it if you pull it out.
it has 3 bolts holding it in...unbolt, and remove...if you've never removed it, be careful with the thing. its fragile.

i connected back every thing together and now the mph doesn't even work now. Did i damage something? all i took of were the 3 bolts the top half of the plastic i think that called the sensor, and there was a little pin i took out also. I put back the pin and the plastic and tighten everything now the mph does not work at all. Before i disconnect everything it would work up until 60 mph but now nothing.
