Dyno: 99 JDM ITR w/ Mugen Intake and Amuse Exhaust
Dynoed the ITR at Super Autobacs today. Only mods are a Mugen intake and Amuse R1000 exhaust, all else is stock ('99 JDM ITR). Car has A/C and P/S (
).
We had to argue with the staff at Super Autobacs as they only wanted to rev the car to 7500 rpm. We told them to rev the engine to the rev limiter, but they were fearful of the engine breaking due to the car having a stock ECU.
I'm a little disappointed that they did not rev the car past where it makes peak power.
First graph is SAE corrected:

171.6 PS = 169.25 HP
16.3 KG/M = 117.85 LB/FT
Second graph is uncorrected (actual):

173.7 PS = 171.32 HP
16.5 KG/M = 119.30 LB/FT

So from what I understand, they will not let you sit in your own car and do the actual pull?
I just purchased the Mugen intake for my R and am curious about your opinion on it. I.E. the power gains, where you noticed differences, do the benifits out-weigh the costs...
You going back in the near future to get some pulls up to the redline? I hope so. By the dyno chart it's obvious your car was still making power in a nice linier fashion.

Correct.
Today, I learned that Super Autobacs is more like a Walmart for car enthusiast's than a "tuner" shop after dealing with their employees.

Sadly, I could not get a baseline dyno done as the car was purchased with a HKS intake in piece.
The Mugen intake is a very quality piece and I like the fact that it incorporates a velocity stack into its design, but I don't feel capable of making claims as to its performance.
The only definitive difference that I noticed between the Mugen intake and the HKS intake is that the HKS whistles louder and more often.

I only dynoed today because I was bored and we were already near Super Autobacs. I'll probably pick up a Power FC for this car and have it tuned at Apexi. I hope that the car will be dynoed properly at that time.
Correct.

You can't blame them for not wanting to rev, they are just looking out for their backs in case anything that may go wrong. Of course here in the U.S., in the northeast, a waiver form is usually signed, so it is hand in hand.

I signed a waiver.
Heck, I had to put a fingerprint on the form also.

My sentiments exactly.
Their logic is horribly flawed. I was told that they would be more confident to fulfill my request if I had an aftermarket ECU. I'm guessing if I had a V-AFC in the car that was completely zeroed out, they would have considered that adequate.

WTF indeed!
I can't believe a shop that does tuning and dyno runs could know that little about cars.

Just to clarify, they only do power runs, no tuning is done at Super Autobacs.
I don't believe they will even let you rent their dyno by the hour to do tuning on your own.
I lost so much respect for the place today.

I was not nearly as overhwelmed as I thought I would be went I went to the store in Osaka.
Try to find a autobacs second hand market or upgarage. Those places are JASMA gold mines.
THe best places are the tuner shops you find in an alley, or sprinkeld about the sidestreets. Its not uncommon to find a 600hp + skyline or rx 7 sitting in there or a few race machines.

Reid is the only HT member (and maybe the only person in the world) to own ITRs in different countries. Ballin' outta control!

hate to hijack your thread. since you are over there... care to share us your insight about the 40k mile myth? last time i was over there. i did see plenty of cars from the late 80's. and im sure they are well over the 40k mile mark.......

I do. I think it definitely depends on what you're using the car for. On a road course, it is invaluable. Seriously. The throttle response alone makes it worth it for me. When, like most times, you're on the bottom of the "torque totem-pole", you need every advantage you can get!
Though pricey, it is a GREAT modification in my opinion.
I really think it's one of the key factors why #32's motor pulled like it did. George doesn't believe me, but it really is/was the car

The USDM ITR has a Hytech header and a short flex pipe which is then bolted directly to the Amuse R1000 exhaust. The JDM ITR has a stock JDM 4-1, then the stock cat, which is bolted to the Amuse R1000. The USDM ITR is also gutted, whereas the JDM ITR has full interior.
Though both cars are loud, the noise level in the JDM ITR is much lower. Also here in Japan you will never be pulled over simply because your car is over the decibel limit.
Most modified cars in Japan are not that loud, however. When the car was strapped to the dyno, more than a few people moved in to watch. As the dyno operator started the run, everyone but me walked away holding their ears. Keep in mind this was before the car went into VTEC.

I haven't got a chance to get this ITR on the road course yet, so I didn't want to make any claims as to the improved throttle response. I did *think* that I noticed better throttle response when merging and accelerating on the freeway. I shrugged off my hunch because one always wants a car to feel better/faster after installing performance parts.

Use your original account, Tuan.
All other accounts including "veilshut" have been banned.
T1R is not comparable to Amuse, IMHO.
