d16z1 vs d16z6 head
alright guys I am confused on the difference in the head of these motors...(if any) one kid on here says vtec is louder than a gs-r.......I thought that it runs on 12 valves until a certain rpm then switches to 16 and then vinally switches to the vtec cam lobe......hence the 12 valve bieng the economy part of the vtec-E.......
here is his quote
yeah its a vtec-e head its the only single vtec head i like because vtec opens louder than a gsr does...
I was just curios performance wise how this head stacked up against the z6 head any input would be awesome guys thanx

I thought the d16z6 motor was the only d16z motor to hit the us market but I could be wrong. Maybe he has a intake or exhaust that makes it sound louder. Just cause it sounds louder doesn't mean it's getting any more power to the wheels.( not trying to bash just saying)
d15z1 rated in the civic vx for 47/56 mpg, 92 hp, and it does stay on 12 valves until 3k rpm, to cut down on pumping friction losses. Good engine, I wanna buy one. Though you can't just do a head swap with one usually cuz they use different rods and pistons so you'll get a crazy high compression if you try just a head swap.
