Default weight savings: AC components

Does anyone know the exact weight savings from removing all of the a/c components (compressor, radiator, condenser, etc)?

I would say more but I forgot how much since someone told me last and I couldn't find anything in the Archives to tell us exactly how much so I refrained from posting a guess like you did.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything in the archives either. Just a bunch of "why are you pulling it out for?"

40-50lbs is way more then I expected, I would still be a happy man with 10-15lbs of weight savings. If anyone else has the exact weights, I would appreciate it. Thanks in advanced.

There were several "weight reduction" posts that listed everything removed and total weight loss but nothing that weighed or listed it specifically.

The compressor is the only really heavy part of the system, so I think 40lbs is about max you save when removing it. I did it on my ITR earlier this summer and was a little surprised how little the rest of the system weighs, but it's mostly alu. pipes and small stuff.

According to Edmunds, a 98 ITR weighs 2577lbs and a 2001 ITR weighs 2639lbs. A/C was a dealer installed option in 97/98 and standard in 00/01. That is really the only difference (weight wise). If that is the case, A/C weighs 62lbs.

How about the rear window wiper and cruise control, they both add a bit of weight.

No ITR's had cruise. 97 was the only year that didn't have a rear wiper. That's why I chose a 98, it's the exact same as an 00/01 except for the standard a/c. I know the cams were different, but that would not affect weight.

well looks like this thread went to crap. But thanks for whoever was attempting to help. I ended up pulling out everything today. I think it came out equivalent to my Autopower rollbar (45lbs). I haven't actually weighed it, just too damn lazy. Even better, when I was working on the car, I heard this waterfall sound and I turn around to see that the water main broke up the street. So much for a nice cool shower .

You must have been drunk when reading...

We removed my AC system last night, but reinstalled the blower box under the dash so I still have a functioning blower/heater system. In addtion, we left the a/c fan in the engine bay & wired it to the radiator fan for extra cooling.

**The torque mount that held the a/c compressor is still being used until I can get an aluminum replacement = unknown weight, but guestimate would be around ~12-15lbs of steel**

Everything else from the system = 35lbs.

Hope this helps.

Sport Compact Car wrote a weight saving article on their '99 Si. If I remember correctly? All the A/C components weighed in at ~27lbs.
