Default B18a Swap help

First off, I wanna say that I'm new here at HT and want to say hey to everyone out there!

I have a 93 integra with the 1.8 non-vtec engine. I just bought a 90 integra as a parts car. Mainly I am gonna pull the engine and tear it down and use it to start my turbo engine build up part by part. However I know that the b18a's are slightly different from the 90-91 to the 92-93 years. I know the early ones are obd0 and mine is obd1. Now so far I know that the distributor is different and also the O2 sensor. I was told to just use the distributor that is on my 93's motor now and also the O2 sensor and that is all I would have to do to use the 90 engine with my obd1 harness and pcm. However looking at it more closely, I notice that the intake manifold has an extra hose and some extra device on it on the 90 engine, and where the device would be on my 93's engine is just a dimple in the manifold and nothing is there. I need to know if I have to re-use the intake that is on my 93's engine with the block and head of the 90 engine to make it work.

Thanks for any help

yes, I am keping my 93 integra obd 1, that's why I was told to use the distributor and the O2 sensor that is currently on my engine now and not to use the ones on the 90 teg. That's why I figured i would have to reuse my intake manifold as well.

Here are some pics for you to look at:

This is a 93 manifold, the same that is on my car.

this is the 90 manifold, the one on the car i just bought (this picture has the throttle body removed)

The only difference i see is if you look at where the ogm letters are, on the 93 there are just nubs, on the 90 there is some sort of gadget

I did something similar...i orignally had an OBDI engine and purchased an OBDII. All i did was swap my original intake manifold over from the OBDI motor, and plugged up all the harnesses

if you just use the block and head from the 90, everything from your 93 will bolt on to the old/rebuilt engine...

youre not doing much of a swap...just building another motor.....

Yeah, that's what I was going for. I always wanted a turbo, and I wanted to be the guy who sticks with the non-vtec motor rather than the vtec's which get all the glory. I figure with my current setup not I estimate that I am running low 15's or high 14's, I am planning to build it for at least 12psi, maybe 15psi. I'm hoping for at least 12's out of that if I hook up.

I haven't had a good run with the car in a while,

last time I was at the track this happened

^^^damn!!!! what you have in your car to do that? BTW you can use the 90-91 IM but i believe the 92-93 manifolds are better designed. use your obd1 dizzy, injectors and engine harness and any other obd1 sensors from the obd1 engine. the really only difference in the 90-91 and the 92-93 engines internally are the cams....the 92-93 ones are alil more agressive.

from what ive read, you shouldnt aim for a "psi" goal, but rather a whp goal...

for 12's w/ slicks id say shoot for 300whp...but if your using forged internals you can get a lot more power more reliably...make sure you have a good tuner in your area too...or one close enough to drive to

well, I am changing the cams anyway, Crane makes a nice set specificly meant for turbo b18a's. And I am going with forged dish style pistons and forged rods, stock crank, upper cylinder brace for the sleeves, better valves, geberally a complete performance buildup. however with the amount of boost/whp I am shooting for, i'm not sure which compression ratio pistons to go with, I can get ethier the forged dish top which keep the stock compression of 9.2:1, or the same style pistons which drop the compression to 8.5:1. I can get them for the same price, so the only decision is the ratio.

lower compression = more possible boost but less power in the motor

high compression = less possible boost but more power in the motor

it depends on your turbo set up... the weak part are the rods..ive seen people running 15 psi on all stock but rods...but with a 8.5 u will have no problem with 20+
