Default 1990 LS. Weird Overheating issues.

I just picked up a 1990 LS yesterday. The radiator was bone dry when I got it, so I put fluid in it and drove the hour or so home. I stopped to drop my friend off and while on the slanted road, it started to overheat. I drove home, which is two roads down and it cooled down again to normal operating temp again.

I came home..parked and that was that. This morning I went to run a quick erran, came right back home and as I pulled into my driveway, the car just shut off. No reason. Tried starting it again and it would just crank.

Went out to drive it about an hour ago..first 5 minutes or so it was fine..then it started overheating when I took my foot off the gas and let it coast..I'd give it gas, speed up and it'd cool back down. I turned around in a driveway and it shot all the way to the red. I stopped the car and it cooled back down. Continued driving and it shot right back up all the way after 10 or so seconds. I turned the car off and waited for it to cool down. I then drove back to my house..idled at it..then the idle started lowering slowly by 50-100 rpm or so and just shut off.

I parked it and here I am..hating the car I just bought.

I dont know whats wrong with it. Since I got it, I changed the plugs (which were completely shot..black and no cathodes left) the plug wires, (which were set in the wrong firing order on the distributor) distributor cap and the oil..which was very dirty. The previous owner took very poor care of the car it seems.

The car has 125,810 miles on it. I'm going to reset the ECU tomorrow, run seafoam through..see what it does.

DONT RUN SEAFOAM, search and you will see why. it makes more probs than its worth. try replacing your thermostat. that makes the temp go up and down alot when you are driving it. itll take you about 10 bux and no more than an hour to replace....just dont run seafoam. if a thermostat doesnt fix it, then id take it to a shop just to see what they say.

thanx

I've ran seafoam in 2 integras and it didn't seem to do anything but get carbon off of sh*t like its suppose to... It could be a broken fan switch, does the fan turn on?

i just let it run in my carport for 15-20 minutes or so..when i went back out it wasnt overheating...but the lower radiator hose feels cold and its leaking coolant.
