First long ride tonight
I posted a few weeks ago saying that I bought a bike and that it needed some work before it was road worthy. With a friend's help, I took it out for the first time on Sunday and was hooked. He said I had a goofy grin that wouldn't come off when I got it back from my 5 min spin.
I've been riding the bike everyday since then to get comfortable in the saddle and used to riding with cars around. Tonight I took the bike to the gas station and filled up for the first time and then went out for an hour long, 32 mile ride. On the way out, I passed a local biker spot at the head of a winding road where a bunch of bikers were hanging out and kept on going. Through the twisty road, I passed groups of riders heading to the bar who flashed the "Three Finger Wave" as they passed. In the car, I never got why they did that. On the bike, I was glad to see it though I was too busy concentrating on the road to wave it back.
It got dark by the time I got out of the twisty sections and rode on home without drama. It was a great experience riding route I am so familiar with in the car. I can't wait to do it again tomorrow.

Congrats on a good time!
Can you explain the "three finger wave?" AFAIK, the usual signal is two fingers pointed down, as if to say "keep two wheels on the ground."
Forgive me if you've already answered this, but what is your riding experience?

Maybe it was 2 fingers - I was watching the road
I started riding on Sunday after "graduating" the MSF course at a Honda Rider Training center. I chose the road because it's mostly empty during the week and tonight was no exception.
Gear's on, I can't imagine the day I ride with anything less than full kit.

It's basically an acknoledgement and a "Whats up, I see you are on a motorcycle, isn't it fun."
I had a good ride last night as well. For some reason, they are much better when I am riding by myself. I think it may be that I worry about my friends too much when I am riding in a group, I would hate to see one of them get in a wreck. A few of the guys got into motorcycles b/c of me.

Screw you guys, its rained for a week solid here in New England, and our season is approaching an end.
Soon the roads will be covered with leaves, and with all this rain, it will be wet leaves.
Boo. Oh well, if snow flies in the next few weeks, my last real ride of the season was 300 miles up through VT, and I'd be happy ending the season on that note.

*they need to make sets of rollers for indoor riding ala bicycle rollers.
*I hardly ever wave at any other riders when riding in the city... just because some smuck can go out and afford to buy a motorcyle doesn't make him my buddy. As a matter of fact I really don't want to know or associate with 95+%
of the riders I see piloting motorcycles down the local streets. things change on the open road

So far my longest ride was about 75 miles around my old town of Sequim. Rode down by the water, through farm country, up the hill where all the rich folks live then back down around a different side of the water then home. It was rad
Congrats man, longest I have done to date was an attempt at an iron butt back in 97, I made it from Jacksonville NC to Vicksburg Mississippi before I just couldn't go any further. It is a hell of a good time though.
MSchu, were you born arrogant or was it something you practiced for?
