Default What type of fiberglass to use?

Well I started the fiberglass kick panel project on my 79 El Camino.

1) I made a mold of the stock kick panel out of fiberglass. This was east since the stock kick panel is pretty much flat and straight.

2) Next I glued my speaker ring up where I wanted.

3) I wrapped it in a old T-shirt (have a bunch so I figured I would just start putting them to use) I then applied resin and let harden.

4) Here is where it got rough. The fiberglass didn't want to conform to the curves of the new panel. It keeps popping up around corners no matter how much I saturate it with resin.

What kind of fiberglass do I need to be using. I have a roll of fiberglass mat that is kind of stiff and crunchy. What kind do I need for projects like this for molding?

you should go to a fabric store and buy thick and cheap fleece. you aren't building something structural as much as you are making an enclosure. that fleece should work 10x better. they make fleece specifically for doing this type of work with long hairs on one side and short on the exposed side, but you seem to be looking budget so i would go with cheap fleece.

Yeah this is my first prject and is not such a load bearing enclosure so I just used a thick t-shirt.

What kind of fiberglass cloth/mat should I be using? All the tutorials never really say what weight or thickness or whatever to use.

the chop mat should be fine, but tear or cut it into small pieces. that should help it lay down flat.

I can't do much smaller pieces. 1 inch by 1 inch is pretty small.
