Valve adjustment question
I think i might be hearing signs of a valve tap, my question is how much does it usually run to get them adjusted, because i am no where inclined to do this myself. My car is a 95 Accord EX with the 2.2 vtec engine. Anybody else notice this? My car has roughly 150k on it. Thanks!

i've been nneeding to readjust my valves for a long time now...how hard is it to do it yoursself? i read over the haynes book procedures several times and it doesnt seem like sumthing thats really hard...i admit im no pro but i can learn and am willing to sepnd all day if needed
AAdjusting the valves is really not that hard. The most difficult part is getting the right "feel" with the feeler gauge. Also, it helps to have a metric feeler gauge, but it's not crucial. Other than that just follow the steps in the service manual exactly and you should be fine. Just remember to do it with the engine cold.... not more than 100 degrees. Good Luck.

first thing u do is get a set of go-no-go feeler gauges ,that way u dont have to work with the feel of the gauge it makes adjusting valves much easier especially for beginners ...

Is adjusting the valves something you would recommend as a matter of routine maintenance, even if the car seems to be running fine? I've got a '99 LX I4 and, the maintenance schedule for normal conditions has adjusting the valve clearance at 105,000 miles or 84 months (seven years).
I bought my car in Oct '98, so its in its 84th month. It has ~ 76,000 miles on it, but it seems to be running great.
I know my local Honda dealership likes to do this every 30,000 miles if you take it in and say "I'd like the 30,000 (or 60,000 or 90,000) mile maintenance", but I suspect they like to do it because it's more work for them to do. Not a knock on Honda dealers in general, just my local dealer.

it is a good maintanance to adjust valves ,,,in most cases ,unless very tight u will not notice any change in the engine performance ..u will hear some tapping noise if loose .. i would advice to do every 30k especially if u do it urself .. if u got to pay a shop i would go to 60k, no longet than that ,unless u start hearing some tapping noise.than do it sooner .. i remember the older cars Honda wanted the valves adjusted every 15k ,,,with every service..
it has a thinner and a thicker part to it ,for example u want to adjust exh on a mmmmm 90 accord at .012 .... u would use the go-no go ... .011-.013 ..it slides real easy in the first step but wont go over the second thickness makes adjusting valve easier and quicker,,this way u dont have to dick around with the right feel .........ask ur snap-on or matco tool guy .. i have been using them for years, work great
