1st timer drag racing tips (I tried a search 1st)
hey all,
I've decided it's time to stop watching and time to start racing!!! I was gonna wait until my car was completed until I actually raced, but why wait. I figure might as well get as much experience as soon as I can.
I'll be racing on a 1/8th track (in a parking lot) I was wondering if you guys could pass me some words of wisdom. My car and set up are below
- Integra GSR 4-door (yeah I know extra weight), back seat removed, driver's seat removed.
- AEM CAI
- Off brand 4-2-1 header that came with the car ( replace with 4-1 dc by race day)
- 2.5" cat back exhaust ending in a skunk2 muffler
- Cheap nankook tires on rota 15" rota axis rims.
- Tokico blues with skunk2 springs
I'm not trying to be super fast, I just want the experience and don't want to look like a total ****. Anything I should know or think about would be great. Thanks

Dont over rev at the start all you will do is spin and look like a noob.. try around 4000rpm if it bogs go a little higher if you spin really hard go to lower rpm's. most of all just make clean shifts.

for your first couple of times i wouldnt focus on a good reaction time, just get used to launching, driving down the strip and shifting. once you get used to all of that start to focus on reaction times.

I dunno how they'll have it setup being it's in a parking lot.
I'm assuming your gonna run on street tire's, if there's a water box go around it, street tires don't grip wet or better if there burned out. Make sure there at proper inflation for max traction. I like to do a quick little spin over of the tires, after I go around the waterbox, to get off any water/debris that maybe on the tires. You approach the beams (there about 15 feet from the Tree, don't pull upto the tree heh)

You'll Pre-Stage and Stage, then the fun begins (I assume it's a sportsman tree), the three ambers will count down. The green light goes exactly .500 sec after the third amber lights. You should leave on the third amber, if you do you, may pull a perfect .500 reaction time. If you leave before the .500 delay to the green, you redlit, no big deal, try again.
I launched my civic about 4,000 with a clutch drop and didn't have traction issuses. Hold her out through the traps. Might be a little in depth don't know what you know or not.. Good luck.

Thanks everyone. I've been around honda's for almost 10 years (3rd honda) I've been watching import drags for a long time, just never had the guts to run myself.
It looks fun!! The car is not even close to being completed but I think she's sound enough to give me 4 or 5 passes just to get my feet wet ya know.
