Any ideas on how to tighten radiator fan blade to the motor?
Recently replaced the radiator fan and condenser fan motors on my '91 --- both were bad. I recall the condenser fan blade having a notched hole that slipped over the motor spindle. It's still fine.
The radiator fan blade just has a hole, not a notched hole, so tightening it so that it stays on the spindle has been a challenge. In fact, it worked well for about 2 months and has now come loose.
However, it isn't the that nut had that came loose. This isn't a situation where Loctitte would have helped --- I had the nut tight and with a locking washer as well.
What happened is that the fan blade slipped down onto the spindle some more, relieving pressure from the nut holding it on the other side.
10-2 of Helms only shows one washer used, between nut and fan blade. However, when assembling it that way, this gives the fan blade even less of a "footing" to sit well on the spindle (I had that washer on the backside of the fan blade because it acted as a perfect stopper on the spindle to keep the blade and the right depth.)
Anyway, none of that seems to matter if I can't tighten the nut --- the spindle will turn because holding onto the fan blade does nothing. I want a fan blade with a notched hole!

On second thought I might try and find a washer with a notched hole and J-B weld it to the fan, thereby creating my fan blade-with-notched-hole. What a pain in the ***.
Scratch that, none readily available. Gonna make something up with washers and a woodruff key; I'll cut one side off two washers and make the woodruff key fill in the circle, leaving me with in effect a washer that's notched on the inside.

Take a look on your old fan motor, there should be one on it. If not, they can be had at your freindly local honda dealer.

Edit: I don't recall seeing such a thing on the OEM motor. As it is I kept a normal looking washer (shown between nut and fan in the Helms) and a thicker, smaller (outer) diameter, bigger (inner) diameter washer that doesn't seem to do anything.)
Real hardware stores (Home Depot & Lowes didn't have one) are what I may try next.
Hmm, I'll try Honda too --- but that begs the question: Why would such a thing be sold separately? I'd still need a way to attach (weld or glue) such a washer to the fan blade to prevent the fan blade from spinning on the motor spindle ...
