Default Buying a GSR...

I'm going to look at a '95 2dr GSR tomorrow and just wanted to know some things to look out for. I've had an EF and EG before but never an Integra so I don't know that much about Integras really. The car has pretty high mileage, 178,000 but apparently he is an Acura tech so he says everything is well maintained and that the timing belt and radiator were recently changed.

He's asking $5000 but I already talked him down to $4500 which according to KBB is still too high. Everything on the car is stock. Here are a couple pictures:

So anyways...do you think that is a fair price for this car? Also, what do I need to check tomorrow before I give him a yes or no on the car?

I would try and talk him down between 4-4500 if the car is well maintaned. It does have 178K. Looks pretty nice

I think I'll offer him 4k for it and if he won't go that low then I won't get it. It just seems like a lot of miles to me

Ok look man, tell him that HE is going to smog it(assuming you have carb laws) and that you will give him 4k FIRM. If you could ask him if you could take it out for a while and show ur family the car but instead take it to a shop to have them do a LOF(Lube,Oil, and Filter) and ask the guys at the shop to do a brief safety inspection on the car because you are possibly buying it. Then when it is all said and done and you have got that far, you make a choice if you want to give that bone head 4g's or not. Trust me dude, you will be glad in the long run that you did all of that. Dont fool around when it comes to car buying like most of the boso's do when they car hunt. If the seller does not agree with any of your requests than say "okay man, well you have my number if you change your mind" and walk!
Good luck to you

I've sold cars before and I would NEVER let some kid take the car and 'show' it to anyone. What if he's in an accident, or steals the car? - then the seller is screwed. Just tell the guy you'd like him to take it to a mechanic of your choice and see what the mechanic says - no need to be shadey about it.

Agreed, why be shadey. If he says no. THen dont buy it, somethings probably wrong.

As for the Poster, i bought my 95 GSR for 5700$ it had 85,000miles on it and this was 2005 New Years Eve. So he is asking a little bit much for it. GOOD LUCK

Is it just me or do the tires look like they're differnt sizes. Rears maybe 55 , fronts maybe 65?

$4500 still is not bad.. if you can get him lower, great. but some areas, cars sell for more or less. if the car is in good condition overall.. like no rust, accidents, etc..and looks to be pretty solid, than it shouldnt be that bad of a car.

just see..

Well I was born nuts and yet I still got the guy to let me take my girl's current civic to a mechanic. BTW, I was f-ing around about the "Take it to your parents, and actually go to a mechanic thing" I am obviously the only one that thinks that is funny buy yet kidding. I would let someone take my car to a shop(with me in the car) if I was selling my ride, as I did when I asked the seller of my girl's civic. I for sure made him smog the car too. If the seller does not comply to your requests for something as simple as an inspection(Generally speaking about private sellers) or he or she refuses to smog it themselves.....its time to take a hike and search elsewhere. There will always be another car that comes around, Honda will make sure of it.

You could just include it in the sales agreement that the car MUST pass blah blah state saftey inspection, and If it doesnt pass the seller agrees to pay for WHATEVER parts nessecary to make it pass. Something along those lines.

Be upfront and tell him you would like to get it checked out. Maybe bring a friend that is knowledgeable in the teg area or honda's in general. As for the price, i would say about 4k. Definately check out the tire situation as brought up before cuz it does look like 2 different tires front and rear. But, other than that, it's always good to see a teg in good hands

I bought my gsr with 132xxx miles. It was black on black no fades whats so ever, interior was in perfect condition. Some 36 yr guy had it before me, clean title and he showed me all the receipts, and had done all the tune ups. Everthing was new even a new exedy clutch was put in. other than that it was all stock. Bought Mine for $5,000 in Houston. Then got it dropped it on teins and took it to the track and hit a 15.3.
Wait a lil longer trust me youll regret it if you buy it then days later you find one for the same price but with alot less miles.

Truth is, you wont be able to find any OBD1 (94-95) GSR's that are still going to be low mileage. That amount of mileage is average for those years.

Now if your looking for OBD2 GSR's, you'll still be able to find very low mileage candidates. Of course prices will be skyrocketed.

If you like the car, buy it. It's hard to find a clean OBD1 GSR for 4K-4500. Not so clean, you'll be paying 3k-3500. Take your pick. Just do a compression test on it before you buy it. Good luck mang.

My GF sold her 94 GSR with 57k miles a few months ago. Mint condition, and the dealership gave her $7300.

i was gonna say good price until i realize it has 178k... i bought mine with 110k one owner 9/10 condition for around 5... that car is worth 3500-4000 but since its a GSR depending on how rare and in demand they are, sometimes you have to pay more, also the guy said he's an acura tech so maybe its all good. but how young is he? if hes 25 or younger that car probly been mashed on alot
