Introducing the all new ICON Auto Parts 2006 Honda Civic Pro Stock Race Car!

Riding high on the wave of the release of the 2006 Honda Civic, ICON Auto Parts is pleased to announce their new car being built for the All Motor/Pro Stock racing class.
ICON Auto Parts (Formerly RPI Racing) was originally building a Pro 4 Cylinder Honda CRX to compete in the 2005 season. Unfortunately, a few things changed the direction of the team and what they were trying to accomplish.
"After seeing the performance of some of the cars at the first race of the year for NDRA in Phoenix in 2005, I decided to take a step back, and watch how the GM cars and the rest of the field were going to progress through the year before investing fully in the car and finishing it. At the time of the Phoenix race, the CRX was about 75% done. Unfortunately, the chassis is not up to SFI spec for running faster than 8.50's, so if we had built a car to be competitive in the class, a new chassis would have had to have been constructed no matter what. At that point, it became a matter of figuring out what we -really- should be doing in racing, and even questioning whether or not to finish any sort of race car. I know it let a few people down to not have the car out as soon as possible, but a reality-check HAD to be made.
The All Motor/Pro Stock class is a very challenging class, and there are a lot of top-level cars in it. The class is by no means 'easier'... in fact, it should prove to be even more challenging. However, from our standpoint, it is a lot more of a managable class. On top of that, with Honda introducing the 2006 Civic, the decision came at the right time, and I feel that this is a better opportunity for our shop and team as a whole. This should be a really fun car!" - John W.
The ICON Auto Parts 2006 Civic will be a full tube-frame chassis race car, and the powerplant will be the "new kid on the block", the Honda K motor. The chassis is currently being built in-house at ICON, and should be finished in rolling form in the next two months. More information will come soon on this new car, and how it is progressing on the ICON Auto Parts website. Currently, the goal is to have the car fully operational by the first race of the NDRA season, which is on March 25th-26th, at Firebird International Raceway in Phoenix, AZ. John Ward will be attending SEMA in Las Vegas, November 1st through the 4th, if you would like to meet with him to discuss this project and/or possible marketing partnerships, please contact him at JohnW@ICONautoparts.com

make folks step up their game.

BEAUTIFUL! This is exactly where the class should be headed. Full chassis all motor cars.
GOOD LUCK with the build up and definetly keep us posted on the progress.

Thanks a lot guys... this has been a very tough decision, because of all the time and effort that was investied in the CRX. But, i think that with the new body, and building an all new chassis, that this will be a much better opportunity, and it'll be with a new car, not an outdated soul (although my heart still lives with the CRX's.. man, i love those cars.. haha!)
hollandallmotor: Thanks man... thankfully we were able to get a hold of the body panels at just the right time. This car was a whisker away from being an RSX... lol.
oneqkfodo: Thanks man... same goes for your car as well
Slapshotnerd: Well, AZ isn't exactly close to home... lol. But yea, it should be a really fun debut. I'll definitely keep everyone posted though on the build progress
powerline: You know it man... i'll definitely need some help sooner or later with this car.. lol. Can't wait to mess with those mods on your car
91sihatch, mrdanger, 90blackcrx, towvtec: Thanks guys!
E-Town4299: Thanks... it may be bold, but its the right move. I think the debut date is more 'bold' than anything.. this is going to be a very busy few months.. hehe.
SixSigma, f@sth@tch89, FWDrag Inc: My thoughts exactly... how cool would it be to have a full field of chassis cars, all running within 2/10ths of each other? It could happen.. heh. The crazy thihng is, that as far as cost is concerned, it is actually almost cheaper to build a chassis car than it is to build a unibody car. Sure, it is tough because everything is practically one-off, but there are chassis builders out there that WANT to make it affordable. Mark at MazWorX for one, wants to build an all-motor tube chassis car, and have it be jigged so they can build more for a better price. If those that are looking to upgrade their cars anyway took the initiative, and decided to do chassis cars instead of unibody cars, they'd find that they can use a lot of their unibody stuff, and make it fairly affordable
Not to mention, it also saves having to buy a used chassis from a junkyard or even a good running car to start with.
highendmotorsports: Thanks!

So you think you can knock off over a second from what the fastest cars in the world are running. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see it but a second is alot in ALL Motor.

He was referring to the crx chassis, that was for hot rod.
John, congrats man.
