Default Auto to manual worth it in this case?

I have to oppurtunity to buy a running RS for about 1500. The only problem is that it is auto. im swapped right now, on my current dc, but for my next project i want to boost.i definitely want an RS body though. Do u think auto to 5speed is worth the hassle, or should i just keep looking for a 5 speed?

Discuss.

If the car is straight and never wrecked, then 1500 is damn good for a running G3 Integra. I would say do it.

This reminds me of a time when I had an auto-g4 prelude. It was auto and I wanted it to be maual trans. so bad. When I found out how much of a hassle and $$ would be going to down the drain, I told myself that all of that is just not worth it. If I were you, I would keep searchin' till I found something already maual to make things simple on your life. Hey, if I could find a 92 DA9 for 2200 5-spd running excellent(except for the body work needed) then you could find yourself something too. Just my .02 though

the car is not wrecked but it has a football size dent in the quarter panel that sinks in about 1.5" deep. other than that its straight. it has the normal wear and tear of a 11 year old car (dings, qt. panel rust).

Are you going to be boosting the old motor or replacing it? Either way I would still do it. My friend did it on his Civic, and depending on how much you find a tranny for, parts should be somewhere between $500-$1000.

Did you do the work yourself? If you have to get a shop do it, I would say it's not worth it. If you feel like you can do it yourself, and can get a transmission for ~$300 or less, it probably would be worth it.

with the money your spending on labor and part, you might as well buy a 5 speed dc

OK TO CLARIFY ON MY SITUATION: im getting either a full b18c swap+matching tranny, or ls+gsr trans+boost immediately. i also do all my own work, swapping included, so the money factor there is not an issue.

sooooo.... basically what im asking is: is the 5speed swap work worth it for the price im paying for on that initial car(1500)?
SINCE IM ALREADY GETTING A NEW GSR TRANS, should i wait some more for 5speed rs to pop up, oooooor jsut go ahead and buy this running auto one and rip it apart(as i was already planning to), and do the extra work for the 5speed.

i hope this helps in answering, thanks.

and im defintely replacing the motor, not boosting this one, if i do end up boosting this one its because im building it while its out, but that is most likely not gonna happen.

get it..your going to do the 5 spd swap anyways. Plus on the good side an auto wouldn't be beaten up as a manul car would.

this was exactly what i was thinking

my only concern was that i was: a) buying the car for too much and/or b) wasting my money on a pain in the *** swap

but so far people have been telling me that i should do it based on price alone

any other people to refute my logic? (im being serious no sarcasm/flaming intended.)

well you can check on autotrader. I'm not sure where you are located but i did a search. Why not these cars? they cost less. Unless you are too far.

hmmmm, body panels and a trunk hatch are easy things to replace. the first one looks like a good deal, that is, if the frame is straight and other things of that sort. thanks.

My friend did his 5-speed swap in his garage, mostly by himself. I helped a little bit when hoisting the 5-speed into place (he didn't pull the motor), and I don't think it was TOO hard, certainly nothing more involved than pulling engines and installing turbo stuff.

send a PM to civicdx on here and ask him about his tranny swap.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think you would have to register your car as 'Salvaged' if you went through with this which is bad .....ehh up to you though!

Well, im not sure where I got that but I could go to the BAR website and double check. Like I said, correct me if I am wrong but the mechanic that told me that could have been referring to something else.
