Panoz will be constructing both Indy and Champ cars. I do prefer a series with more than one constructor. Champ Car IMO shouldn't be a spec series. But I guess the owners are trying to keep costs down to make the series more attractive to prospective teams.

is this a good thing for Cart, I mean Panoz race cars hasn't won any championships have they? the only one I can think about is first year of ALMS in Gt1 or 2

Doesn't really matter. If Minardi became the spec car for Formula 1, it wouldn't really have any bearing on whether they have ever wone a race or not, would it? While I like the diversity of the different manufacturers in all motorsports, you have to admit that it would be tougher to have a runaway team (ala Ferrari of the past couple of years) clinching the championship 1/2way through the season. Some of the most exciting close racing is that of a well run, spec manufacturer series.

That may be true I was thinking as far as being reliable, if 4 cars go out everybody in a Cart race gets points. I don't think that Cart has closer racing then IRL, certaintly are not as close as say star Mazda which is a spec series.

Yeah, Cart has had its downs lately......I think the new package will benefit Cart, they need to keep costs down some way or another. Its either this, or rasie ticket prices which are pretty high for a near spec series. Whatever they do they need to do it fast. IRL is kicking *** and they now race on road coarses so...good luck cart.

You, my friend, do indeed have a valuable point.

Maybe right now, but look at the future. As of now, Champ Car has a chassis and engine deal for 2007 and beyond, and a damn good one that will be significantly cheaper to run then the old cars (Lolas). IRL, has a smaller schedule next year covering less markets, no Chevy after this year (maybe Toyota too), and def no Toyota after 2006. Honda says it doesnt want to be a sole engine supplier after 2006. Panoz and Dallara only signed to extend through 2006, nothing beyond yet. There is even talk that Ganassi might run a few Champ Cars races next year because the schedule is better, maybe even Penske eventually.
The IRL events on road courses have been a huge hit, dont get me wrong. But it looks like in a year or two IRL may be the ones in trouble with no engine or chassis deal (yet). IMO, Tony George is a huge hippocrit for turning his series into the opposite of what he formed it to be, and it will bite him in the *** some day. Hopefully, sooner rather then later.
