Default New Civic Si Good?

I think so... as far as a high performance car from the factory maybe not, but it does produce close numbers to the previous Civic Si (slightly worse) but its redeeming factor is the fact that it runs on REGULAR UNLEADED GAS! 87 Octane! No need to buy the most expensive stuff or the stuff that we on the west coast cant even get.

Though the performance sux, I think its a good car just for people who arent too big on speed. Just someone who saw that ricer movie and wants a honda. Not really a performance car, just a good car that is semi quick.

I sat in one, and was definitly impressed. I liked the shifter location, and the seats were great. Definitly sporty. The 99-00 Si seats suck *****!

The 02 Si exterior needs work, but that is pretty much taken care of by the 2004 CTR that I hear, we will be getting!

Too bad the car is soooo heavy though.

I am sure it would be a totally different beast and have received better reviews if it had some light 15" or 16" wheels and very sticky summer tires.

BUT alas.. honda put 195/60 r 15 on them... all season **** tires...
what a-holes.
they should have used the ITR's Bridgestome RE010 for the '02 civic si.

Hey HXMan, since you went to test drive the car how does the VTEC feels in the car. I hear that it doesnt have the high rpm vtec switch over anymore on the car. Just wanted to know since u drove the car.

I would definitely run premium if i bought one. Thats wack that they dont need premium. Interior is kinda nice, definitely 500 times nicer than 99-00 si's but still they are heavy and the exterior is soooooooo boring.

I-Vtec sticker also suck ballz- look very cheap.

After i saw on at a car show 2 months ago, I was still very happy to have my 2000 si, very much over the new ones.

1 good thing is that they are a 2.0 which equates to torque

Ryan,

I would be very interested to know your honest opinion about the new SI, when you get it. I don't like the looks but, I didn't like the looks of the 7th gens or the RSX's when they first came out either.

Thanx,

Gabe

the seats are damn nice and just about everything else about the interior is great. i was sold on that car but then reviews came out and that turned me off to the car... i mean a ford focus SVT beat the crap outta the Si and the Sentra SE-R even took down the Si... VW Golf GTi... tore up honda! They just got too cocky and fell on their ***... but thanks to all that humbling, the Civic Type R will be here soon!

i think if i werent a performance minded buyer in california, i'd buy one and start modding the crap outta it. JDM ITR cams, lower compression pistons, custom turbo... but then again i live in Cali, so poo poo to me.

im looking into a replacement for my jack d car..and the SI seems like a logical choice..but the lack of the power scares the **** out of me..i dont want to be constantly looking into the rear view mirrors of a ford or nissan..or maybe i should consider those choise instead

2.0L iVTEC 160hp... 2700lbs

not a light car, not enough power. solid car, but not ideal for the performance minded.

ok. think about it guys. 160. but 20% greater torque then the prior Si. And 2700lbs? 00si was app. 2620? that's not that much more weight. plus. it's a bigger engine. which means more power, torque. a turbo-ed k20 can take out a turboed b16. that's my 2cents

According to the times in the .25 mile it is slower than the 99-00 Si. It is a low 16 second car the 99-00 Si was listed as a 15.7 .25 mile car. I ran a 15.5 .25 mile in my 00 Si stock. What is screwed is they are showing the new Focus "pocket rocket" to be a hair faster than the new Si and that is horrible news.

imagine the mod factor tho. this new engine accepts mods much better than the older cars. for example. cai in a b16 would give it few whps? on the rsx (which is similar engine on the new si) the injen sri gave it 9-12whp. (dynoed) so imagine the possibilities of other mods.

There is a good article in the March "Car and Driver". It rates the SVT Focus, 02 Si and the VW GTi. Ya'll should read it.

The redline is decreased in the new civic which I don't like. I do like the interior but I liked the interior on the 99/00 Si. Right now I don't want one. But I'll wait for the dealer to get it so I can test drive one.
