ok. i got a set of these phillips HID ballasts from a local yard, and the connetors/ harness that pugs into them was completely destroyed. and i couldnt use it at all.
i need some help wiring these up, most ballasts i see just have 2 wired comin out of them ( red and black ) well this has 3 contacts on teh ballast, and searched basically everywhere and cant find a diagram for this style HID ballast. im not worried about soldering the connections. i just want to know what the deal is with these 3 contacts instead of just 2? what is what?
any help would be appreciated.
oh and these came out of a danali. or an escalade. ( it was some domestic SUV )

well my first suggestion is for you to go on either e-gay or to the cady dealer for the part that goes in there..i DO NOT suggest soldering...trust me it will catch on fire! Second, why not get a hid kit to fit your cars plug?? saves future trouble too! Anyway go get the plug for it then you should be golden..again do not solder it!!! Remember becareful, HID's draw in more power when it heats up (in the thousands!, so read it somewhere before i bought my hid kit) so dont solder it..also you may need the correct fuses for them too....
by the way do you know if that is a D2S or a D2R? They both are different.
How much did you get them for??

I have a 5600K mculloch hid kit on my car too! its WAY awesome, better then the retro fits too!

he doesn't need the harness or to solder any wires. he can get some metal clips to attach some wires directly to those prongs. these clips are easily had for mere cents if not cheaper.
also hid bulbs do not heat up that hot, if they did they would melt every car part around them and/or you would have to have some cooling for the bulbs.
I've grabbed a hot bulb, it didn't feel more than 250 degrees to me. yes it was hot, but not thousands.
d2s and d2r use the same base and are 100% interchangeable. the only difference is that the d2r has a strip around the bulb to help block light.

pos in #2, then neg on #3 then use #1 to triger the ballast directly from the stock harness, i will try that to see what happens. That is off of a D1S system

.. and you know what 250 degrees feels like? Are you superman?
Why in the hell would you grab a hot bulb? Besides the obvious risk of burns, the oil from your skin makes them blow up due to temperature differences when you turn it on again.
No they dont get in the thousands of degrees, but they do get pretty damn not.

Never buy HIds without the harness.
It is almost impossible to wire up the right way because even if you solder it to the prong, it's bound to fall off

I was testing a balast and when I picked up the bulb it slipped a little and landed in my hand.
I've been working in restaraunts for the past 10 years and I know what 350 (fryer grease/most flat tops) feels like. it wasn't that hot. it did hurt, but it wasn't hot enough to damage the skin. my skin normally won't burn until something is 300 + degrees. that's why I said 250. it felt about as hot as headlights straight out of the oven would feel.
