Smoke screen in VTEC? Inquire within...
I have had this problem that Started when I put in mt JDM header (coincidence) and started to get worse after the EXPO.
When under a load, and 6K RPM and up, I blow a haze of smoke, and you can smell the oil burning from inside the car.. not to mention all the leaking from head gasket AND valve cover gasket...
On Tuesday Acura will perform a Leakdown test to see whats up.
I suspect (from the help of memebers here) that it is piston ring related and that Acura will replace them for me.
I will post the leakdown results here, if you all care to see it...
I am hoping this will answer questions others might have regarding the Spy Hunter effect.

I too have the same problem. The problem seemed to have started after adding a test pipe. Are they covering this under warranty? I’m interested in the results, as well as if they are fixing it for you.

All under warranty! Leakdown performed... Less than 5% variance between the Cylinders (thats what Acura said..) All seems good... soooooo
They have a call in to the Tech center and are waiting to see what they say. The mechanics there seem to think its the valve guide seals...
We'll see.
Bryan, I noticed it too when I installed my testpipe (To stock cat back) and came to the conclusion it was moisture in the exhaust from lack of gaskets...but I put the gaskets in and it still blows smoke, and also the Carsound CAT. So I took it in.

guide seals wont smoke under acceleration
only under high vaccum conditions such as idle or cruising.
i would say its the rings. good leakdown wont necessarily find bad rings.
You would have to do a leakdown test at different positions of the cylinder
and that still wont tell you the status of the oil rings.

Bryan.. I DO KNOW! Those fawkers are saying its on me if ita a valve seal/guide issue...that its bad from me OVER-REVING it..R&R head..$563
BUT, if its rings, its on them.. should I take my chances? Looks like I just became my own mechanic...

Ouch, $563. Well Steve knows his stuff, and if he says its the rings, then I would go with that
Can you have someone do the valves for you, or ck them atleast? If so have that done, then take it to the dealer. **** luck!

What you should be worried about is the dealer not telling you the truth.
Even if i am right, that doesnt mean they will cover anything.

They (the service people) just ruined my taste for Acura... I was going to get a TL Type S and now, I dont hink so if this is the kind of service I should expect.
What really pisses me off is that the "older" owners get their ASSES KISSED.. I never get a loaner car either and they NEVER offered to rent one for me...so I just wait in the showroom with my 2 year old daighter for 2 hours, and let her run wild, get into the receptionists desk.. lol.. fawk them,
they voided my warrantee over aftermarket exhuasdt... im in the middle of a suit with them.,..... 8(
i had same prob...
i had same prob...
my car does the EXACT same thing. I took the block apart in octoberhad it bored and honed and put in new rings. Still did it. I figured.. must not be rings then... took it apart again. Rings were somehow cracked and totally did not seal at all. Soi replaced them again. Valve seals etc.. were replaced each time as well. Car still smokes. Im about 99% sure its rings because i just replaced my valve seals 2 weeks ago for fun... and the old ones looked perfect. Im going to bore out to 82mm or just get a b20 and sell this bitch soon. Rings SUCK.

yea both times. The problem was... the ring gapping was wayyyy loose. I didnt think they were gonna seal but i tried it anyway. The first time i had it bored, it was done by a sloppy domestic shop, and they went too far. Ive been doing my best with what I have, but its not fun to smell your oil in vtec.

Well, I went to Acura on my way to work tonight and the lead service writer said I over-revved it. I asked him How I did that, here is the kicker:
Me: "how did I over-rev it?"
Fred: "Say you were going along on the race track in 3rd, and you go to grab 4th, but dont get it in, now you are in neutral and flooring the gas.... thats how you floated a valve, and damaged the valve guide, since it came down on a bad angle."
Me: "BULLSHIT!, you cannmot over-rev with the accellerator, dont you know Integras have ECU controlled fuel cut-off, that prevents over-revving?
Service Manager: "YES YOU CAN!"
Me: "please tell me how then, is it possible to rev higher than the rev-limiter with there BEING NO FUEL?"
Service Manager (because Fred walked off) "It just does"
Me: "I would like to talk to the fella who told you that, because I dont agree"
Service Manager: "I dont agree with you"
Me: "Goodbye" *to him and all the service techs standing around that came up from the back*
FAWK PRESTIGE ACURA IN SANTA ROSA...
Off to Burlingame for a second opinion...
I would admit, and have no problem paying for something that is my fault, but they just threw out some BS... and it was wrong BS too!
Off to Snap-on.com and order up the valve adjustment tool, and feelers.. looks like I just hired myself as a new mechanic.. As I am sure they wont help me too much anymore...
