91 ls engine compatibilities.
basically i bought a 91 integra knowing i was going to eventually replace the engine for somthing better.. its got 170k and it wasnt taken care of to well before me.. i can prolly get another 30k out of it but what im looking to to is either.. swap a new ls engine..and vtec it.. or boost it.. or just putting a gsr in it.. it would be my first engine swap so im shooting for easiest route.. the problem im having is finding a ls complete swap with tranny etc.. this site has this engine..

which is labeled b18b.. ls.. which is what i already have.. but the valve cover is different on mine.. it looks more like this one.

its labeled longblock.. im wondering if i can buy the complete swap.. will their be compatibility issues.. or is it just a straight swat with everything being the same?..
any help would be awesome. thanks

you dont have a b18b you have a b18a.
The only compatibilty issues you will have would be the tranny, you'll have to use a cable tranny, the complete swap will come with a hydro, your car is cable.

you can use this swap and convert from cable to hydro tranny. what i would do is jus buy b16 motor, tranny ecu, and ls vtec. way faster than stock ls. you shouldnt have to replace your block jus put new bearrings, gaskets, etc. and maybe slap some new pistons and rods in ther and youll be haulin *** compared to now
worse case scenario = previous owner doesnt know how to care for cars.. so she let the oil run low for awhile.. probably beat on it a little.. and you say all ill need is new bearings gaskets etc?.. what im definatly going to do is get a new tranny.. but im just looking for a nice power increase and make the car reliable.. its got 170k but if you say i just need those parts then hell sounds cheaper and easier.. other input would be awesome though
Freshen up the LS block and go boost!
That way you won't have to rewire anything and will make more power and way more torque than gsr swap.
Why do you need a new tranny? Does your old one grind not go into gear? I'd keep your cable if you can, make everything much easier.

I have a 281,600 mile B18A engine and it runs great. Mileage has little to do with the overall condition of a HONDA engine. You can do a compression test to see if there is any internal problems. I could easily get another 100K miles on my engine.
I will be rebuilding for performance soon with some PR3 pistons (10.8-1) compression, 404 Crower cams, RM valvesprings, ACL bearings and ARP rod bolts. With some good tuning I will be looking at 160-170 hp to the wheels, and if I ever find a good deal on a short geared tranny, this B18A will be a nice little runner.
Swaps are nice too, but it is easier for me to build as I go instead of dropping such large coin on a swap, that is really the only reason I don't go LSVTEC or swap, besides wanting to be alittle different by building the engine that has served me so well for so many miles. Good luck in whatever you decide.

it doesnt grind going into gears.. but the pervious owner learned to drive stick on this car and i have a feeling it will be worth it to get a new one.. eventually. At start up it smokes cold then it goes away once its warm.. also lotsa carbon come out the exhast when it starts also.. = oil burning..

Before you start moding anything, you should do all your basic maintence first and foremost. I would go with replacing the timing belt w/new water pump. Regardless if it was a gurl that had it before you, the car is still old and probably not maintained correctly. I would say save some money and prep your ride, Battery service(if needed) oil change right off the bat, coolant flush, fuel injection service, tranny flush, check condition of tires, check your suspension(hopefully not lowered improperly) and maybe even get that bad boy up in the air and check under the car for anything noticable like your bearings, ctrl. arms, and what not. Do these things first since, because you and I both know that the beyotch b-4 you did not do these things.

ya all the maintenance is taken care of.. i changed oil.. all the suspension wil be done once i figure out what im going to do with the car.. if i dont have to swap the engine that would be awesome.. but to get it in new working order what parts need to be replaced?..assuming it smokes at start up.. so that would be the seals i think.. pistons/rods/crank.. maybe a nice polish if theirs been clylinder wall scratching?.. id love to just beef up the one i got now and turbo it up.. but i dont want to drop the money for the parts and then have the block its self blow or the head.. im just looking for some insight to common damage to the engine after a person hasnt properly cared for it for a year or so. Thanks for all the info ive already got and any future info..
