FS: New custom 8 pt. cage installed in your CRX for $1,100
For several years I have owned a partially built but never installed custom 8 pt. roll cage for a CRX that I have intended to build into a racecar. When we were building the below pictured ITA CRX several years ago, we bought the extra 1.50 inch x .095 DOM seamless tubing and had a matching second cage mostly made up for a sister car that we would build later. I have recently decided that my life is too busy and not to build that other racecar so now I would like to sell many of the things I have gathered.
The deal is that you bring your 88-91 CRX racecar to the Cincinnati area and my cage builder (who builds dirt track chassis and done a number of Spec Miatas amongst other things) will install the custom cage in your car for $1,100. Custom cages cost a heck of a lot more than this now with the cost of steel, etc. but this is an out-the-door price if someone wants it over this winter. If you want a minor change made to the cage design, that is certainly acceptable although there may be a minor upcharge if much more tubing is required.
A few photos of the matching first cage are below and more photos are available upon request. The car shown was actually crashed several times including a head-on shot off the kink in the back straight at Road America probably in excess of 100mph where the engine was pushed back into the firewall but the cage and driver were fine. That car has since been fixed and wrecked and fixed again and is still racing. Needless to say, the cage works.
The top is designed as a halo-type system and there are three NASCAR style door bars on the passenger side with two horizontals and one diagonal on the passenger door side. He uses a number of gusset plates and the cage is Mig welded.
Let me know if you are interested or have any questions. Only one cage available at this price.

Pretty decent looking cage Lee! And for that price, WOW! That is a STEAL with the current price of steel.
I think it is a very good price for it. We lowered the price a bit from what it would be now figuring whoever buys it will need to get their car to Cincinnati so we adjusted it down a bit.
I just don't see myself using it now that my current racecar is running and I seem to have less and less time to play with toy cars.

I know a roll cage is not exactly a spur of the moment, impulse buy so this may take some time until the right needy person comes along. I am putting a link to this thread in my sig line until it sells and posting it on a few other sites.
If you happen to hear of anyone in the Midwest building a racing CRX in need of a good deal on a nice cage, send them my way.

lee, about as loose pieces? it would simplify getting the cage sent/shipped.
it's basically bent and cut/prepped and ready to be welded in place right?
i could then try to sell my new/unused bolt in autopower and only pay the difference.

A portion of the primary tubes are bent but not enough that one could ship it off and expect it to be built properly without a great deal of work and continued fabrication. By definition being a custom fitted cage for that car, quite a bit of the final bending, cutting and notching need to be done at the time of installation to make it exact. A big part of the deal (the majority of the price) is Mike's labor for the installation itself. It would be like buying a puzzle that many of the individual pieces are not yet completed.

i thought you were only allowed one bend on the A pillar bar.
nevermind, its 2 bends per front tube.
also, how are the bars to the rear plate welded?
