I searched and some people said they're accurate and some say not. I was thinking about picking one up... anyone ever use this? Accurate? Hard installation?

These things as a whole are not accurate, they use g-forces and inertia to calculate speed and distances. When they develop one that uses gps tracking that is when I would invest.

The Gtech might not be 100% accurate, but it is pretty accurate against itself. If you use it as a tool to test before and after mods, or something like that, you should be happy. Just don't see your numbers and assume they are 100% real. If you want to know if your launches, or 1/4 Mile are improving it should at least tell you that much.

They have GPS units. Car and Driver reviewed many of these units.

if you don't think an accelerometer can measure your car's power and torque (which cause acceleration), then you didn't pass high school english or physics. one of those. your car accelerates, it measures the acceleration. does it do a good job? well, it's impossible to tell since different dynomometers work differently, but it's fairly accurate compared to dynos. it works differently, so it will always be a little off, but it should always be off by about the same % and in the same direction. so yes, it's a wonderful tool, unless you can manage to max out the accelerometer by hitting >1.25G's or so (>12.25m/s^2). so basically if you don't hit over ~159mph trap speed in the 1/4 mile, you can use this.

why dont u get it, use it, do loads of semi-scientific tests for us, and then come back and give us feedback
