2000 accord av6 possible timing issue. help advice needed.
instead of handing out $600+ for a timing /water pump change, I undertook the task of changing them myself this weekend.
Now after the change the car seems to overheat when sitting which suggests to me that the timing is a few degrees off!!
The vavles aren't clicking and the car actually runs great with lots of power.
Its possible I have a cooling related issue, but I'm not 100& sure.
One thing I did notice is that my haynes manual and some other manuals have contradicting info with regards to what TDC is.
My haynes manual suggests that TDC is the first lone mark(a) on the crank pully. Other info I have suggests that TDC is represented by the middle of the 3 following marks(B).
-----------------A--------B----------------------

(looks like this . ...
So now having contradicting info. I think I may have set the timing incorectly.
Does anybody know the correct timing mark or have any ideas what the overheating issue may be?
Any help much appreciated.

The single mark (A) is TDC. The center of the group of 3 is the stock SPARK timing mark, probably 16 degrees before TDC.
Since you changed the water pump, I'd look at that job for the overheating. Did you use a cheap/junk pump? Did you get a new thermostat? Did you completely bleed all the air out?

as usual, Jim's right on here. although on my 98 4 cylinder the center mark is 12 degrees, not 16. dunno about the v6.

that's what I'd look at first myself.

Much appreciated guys.. Problem solved.
I was kind of rushed to finish the car and didnt make time to do the simple things. It was getting dark and starting to rain.
The coolant system was full of air, Once i let the car warm up with the radiator cap off and reved the engine a little I could add almost another 2 litres.
Anyways problem solved.
Saved myslef almost $500 :-)
Once again thanks for your input.
