Getting My CRX ready for turbo>>Input Appreciated
Hello everyone,
I have a 1990 CRX si. I am hoping to plan a killer setup and my knowledge is rather limited. I do have a technician that will be doing most of the work with me but I would like to get the opinions of a few experts before I finalize my plans.
Here's my current setup:
'90 CRX SI with d16y8 mounted onto a d16z6 block (long story)
Homemade cold air intake
D16y8 intake manifold (TB, Injectors, Fuel Rail, etc.)
Apexi V-AFC Vtec controller
That's about it as far as mods. I am looking to make this thing very fast in the near future and have been checking out turbo kits on ebay. I am not sure of everything that will need to be done to make my engine safe for turbo but here are a few ideas I had, please comment.
ARP studs
Low compression pistons
Zex cam
Different head gasket
Walbro 255 fuel pump
rings?
May also want to do nitrous someday. Please let me know what you guys think.

your gonna need some bigger injectors, and something to tune everything with. Since it sounds like you want to do it right, get standalone enginemanagement. Get yourself hondata. Also get a Cometic head gasket from a groupbuy here. And, rings usually come with pistons when you buy them.
What about forged rods ? Your going to need them if you plant to make big power, Eagle makes good rods if your on a budjet. If money is no issue get pauters or Manley.
And the most important thing is who builds the motor. You will also want to get oversize pistons, and bore the engine so you know the sleeves are straight. Then get the bottom end balanced and all clearances checked.

Thanks for the reply!
I had actually thought about bigger injectors but I wasn't aware it was a large issue. Do you reccomend a brand? I have decided to do this to my CRX instead of buying an 06 civic SI so I am not really on a budget, but it can't be ridiculously pricy ether. Where does the groupbuy for this head gasket take place? I'll add forged rods to my list. I am planning on a kit that comes with a T3/T4 hybrid turbo, is this adequate for the setup?
I will be looking into hondata, can I still run my VAFC? (I love the way it looks
)
I really do want to do this right so I am researching all I can.
I am related to a certified master technician who will be helping me out with all the engine work.
When I buy the ARP studs will I need to buy them for a d16y8 or a d16z6? I have a y8 head and z6 block.
Thanks
